Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
The playlists aren't posted, to date, unfortunately. They posted that a Manchester artists Vault special was airing this week at about 7:30pm. It was lucky that I checked their page just before shutting down my computer that night, or I would have missed it.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Here's the rundown on the ABC1 episodes during the week:
"Sorry for the late reply - yes. Monday will be a VAULT, Tuesday will be a repeat of the evening GP, Wednesday will be the Chart (including M and MA-rated chart songs that we can't play in the morning), and Thursday will be metal/rock new releases."
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Tonight's episode:
Stay up late tonight for a special Sub Pop Records VAULT featuring 90's alt rock legends Mudhoney, Sebadoh & Eric's Trip as well as clips from Postal Service, Wolf Parade & Beach House.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Guru Bob
They are having a Vault Special next Saturday night, hope there are a few gems that will turn up.
Do you mean 'next' Saturday as in the first weekend in December, or this coming weekend? This weekend's going to be a Recovery 'special'. I hope that doesn't count as a 'Vault special' in their minds!
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
I meant this weekend as that is what is on the digital TV Guide. I would be very happy if they do play a whole night of Recovery as that will lessen the need to play it in January.
I don't mind Recovery in general but when it is shown instead of Countdown in January it is shattering. Hopefully this method will solve the problem. They did this last year as well if my memory serves me right.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Yeah, they had a Recovery special last year, too.
It's quite bizarre how Recovery is so revered by rage though, given it only lasted 4 years (maybe 5 calendar years - though from memory the last 2 of those didn't have Dylan hosting).
I like some 'alternative' music, but remember catching bits of the show when channel surfing and thinking it looked like car crash TV, it was that bad. Dylan was a shocking host, and the audience looked so bored to be there most of the time (I don't blame them).
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Thanks for the update Nathan - I had no knowledge of this at all. I sent rage a request list for a Vault Special a couple of months ago. I wonder if that had any effect on rage deciding to do this?
Can anyone compile a list of the "Australian" and "Manchester" clips they played in recent weeks? Curious to know what they played.
Will permanently set my recorder every week for this just in case.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
I don't know which Australian clips they played, as I missed that episode unfortunately.
The Manchester special had (from memory, and not all of them):
The Stone Roses:
I Wanna Be Adored
She Bangs the Drums (version 2, the one they normally play)
Fools Gold
Inspiral Carpets:
This Is How It Feels
She Comes In the Fall (they hadn't aired this one since 2001)
808 State:
10 x 10
Pacific
A Certain Ratio:
The Big E
Shack Up
Lamb:
Softly
Gorecki
Black Grape:
Get Higher (they hadn't aired this one since 2001)
In the Name of the Father
Happy Mondays:
Kinky Afro
Lazyitis (maybe)
Electronic:
Late At Night (this hadn't aired since 2002)
Getting Away With It (version 2, the one they used to air when it was in the top 50)
New Order:
Thieves Like Us (I think)
James:
Laid
They also had a few random rage ID's (the artist/band introducing themselves) from the Vault, too, of Ian Brown (from The Stone Roses), Lamb & New Order.
Overall it was a good special, but only a handful of clips they hadn't aired in recent years.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Thanks for the playlist... if they continue to play a few gems that haven't seen the light of day for 10+ years then this will be a great addition to the rage portfolio.
Mind you I think ABC should just create a 24 hour rage channel. The ABC has room for at least one more SD channel.
Channel 9 now fits 6 channels into its multiplex (1xHD + 5xSD) - the primary channel in both HD and SD, and Gem, Go!, Life and Extra (the low bitrate shopping channel).
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
One clip I forgot when I posted that list - they also aired New Order's 'Bizarre Love Triangle'.
Clip Magnet

Yeah, I'm hoping that's the case, too. These Vault shows seem to be themed, as the Saturday morning Vault segments have been since late 2014.
I agree that there should be a rage channel, though to be honest it would be a chore keeping up with it all; especially if the playlist wasn't announced before airing. They could easily put rage on overnight on ABC3 though in place of the station closing.

^ Yeah, and watermark-free Asia and Buggles videos. That "I'm So Straight I'm a Weirdo" video was interesting, too.
Any rare videos they dig out for these Vault playlists is a bonus. Though I have to say, some of these videos look and sound like you're watching an old VHS tape with the fuzziness/encoding quality.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Yes it was a teriffic vault last Tue. If this continues to be the calibre of what we'll get on a weekly basis then we will be very happy campers indeed! There were a couple of clips there that I have been after for ages.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
"I'm So Straight I'm a Weirdo" video is one I have wanted for a few years now as a young BLITZ KID Boy George is in the video. The first clip he stared in

D@mn, tonight's show is going to be a 'best of 2015' show instead I hope this doesn't mean they've scrapped the Monday night Vault show.
"In case you missed it, tonight on ABC we’re replaying some of the best videos of last year as featured in our 2015 Special – everyone from Iron Maiden, Grimes and Björk to Slayer, Thundercat and The Chemical Brothers. Tonight on ABC from 12:55am."
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
And of course the 3 hour Vault would be a UK hip hop one, due to some producer I've never heard of dying recently. While 2 Natalie Cole videos is all they could muster up...

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Tonight on ABC3 they've also got something different!
Tonight on ABC3 we have special guest Paul Drane. This man is behind some of the most iconic images in the history of Australian music. Tune in for some riveting behind the scenes tales from the sets of classic videos from AC/DC, Skyhooks (band), Hush (band), Cold Chisel and plenty more. There is also a tribute gig to his life's work at The Tote Hotel in Melbourne this weekend.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Sorry, I missed out to see Paul Drane episode because I was in bed, can you sent me the playlist of Paul Drane episode and make his videography please?
I want to see if there will be a book about the history of Australian music videos.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
I can't remember all of the Paul Drane playlist, but remember these (order may not be correct):
*HUSH Bony Moronie (Countdown)
SUPERNAUT I Like It Both Ways (I think this one was a Countdown video, too)
AC/DC Jailbreak
*JOHN PAUL YOUNG Where the Action Is
*SKYHOOKS This Is My City
*THE FERRETS Don't Fall In Love
*SPLIT ENZ Late Last Night
STEVIE WRIGHT Evie (Parts I, II and III)
AC/DC It's a Long Way To the Top
* = I kept these. I would have kept 'I Like It Both Ways', but got a signal glitch during it.
He spoke about most, if not all, of the videos selected, too.
It was an interesting playlist, as, from what I can see, rage haven't aired the Hush, Supernaut, John Paul Young, The Ferrets, or Split Enz videos since online playlists are available (1998) - at least not as standalone clips (for those that are Countdown performances). The Skyhooks video hasn't aired since 2002.
I can't remember the name of the Cold Chisel track, but it was a long (approx. 7 minutes) video that started with Ian Moss singing, then Jimmy Barnes singing from the second half.

Was the Late Last Night clip the original (non-sepia) version? I'm pretty sure the "sepia" version on the Split Enz DVD was a modern creation (a.k.a. butchery) made just for the DVD, and originally the clip was never like that nor was there ever an "alternative" version.
The copy of that clip on the old VHS Split Enz clip collection was the non-sepia version.
The original 7" mix of the song used on this video has also never been released on CD or download, but there's a pretty good rip of it on Youtube.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Just checked my HDD and the Paul Drane episode ran for 70min with the following playlist:
HUSH - Bony Maronie (live on Countdown)
SUPERNAUT - I Like It Both Ways
AC/DC - It's A Long Way To The Top
JOHN PAUL YOUNG - Where The Action Is
SKYHOOKS - This Is My City
STEVIE WRIGHT - Evie Parts 1,2 & 3
THE FERRETS - Don't Fall In Love
COLD CHISEL - One Long Day
GRAVEYARD TRAIN - Witches
SPLIT ENZ - Late Last Night
AC/DC - Jailbreak
Split Enz clip was colour set in a bar setting.
Graveyard Train is a 2016 clip, the rest were all 70's

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
I'll be interested in the clips from:
Lisa Edwards - Cry
Alphaville - Forever young
Sixpence non the richer - There she goes
Godley and Creme - Englishman in new york
Bruce Hornsby and the Range - The way it is
Does anyone know if they're going to repeat Elton John's "I guess that's why they call it the blues"? They trashed the original 3/4 landscape aspect on saturday night, so if I have a second chance, I can record it in 16/9. I wish they would stop screwing around with the original video clip aspects from the 80s.

They repeat some of Saturday night's guest programmer/special segment on ABC on Tuesday night/Wednesday morning. This week it runs from midnight to 2:15am Wednesday. So they'll probably re-air 2 Countdown episodes + some filler videos; the Elton clip may be among them.
Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special
Sorry, but IMO, the Go-Go's ****s on Fun Boy Three's! I recall it being in Rolling Stones Top 500 Greatest Singles of All Time. A perfect pop song in 3 minutes and for me, well I never get sick of listening to it. I'm just glad they didn't programme the Hilary and Haylie Duff version from 2004. What a joke that was.
The Gary Jules version of 'Mad World' was a UK Christmas No.1 in 2003. I agree, too slow and dreary.
