Dubuque, Iowa: In the spring of 1930, the Lange & Tscharner Motor Car Co., sales and service for Durant, Auburn and Cord motor cars, moved into a new home at 850 Iowa Street, Dubuque.

Rick Neat building and story behind it, but I missed the Durant connection. Was there offices there? When are we going to see that prize winning 6-19? Ross
"Dubuque, Iowa. The Lange & Tscharner Motor Car Co., sales and service for Durant, Auburn and Cord motor cars, has moved into a new home at 850 Iowa St."
This from a June 7, 1930 news article.
Google street view shows a parking garage on one side of the street and a newer office building on the other side of the street in the 800 block of Iowa Street now.
Anyone have an old picture of the building that was there in the 1930's? Maybe the local historical museum?

Just found a new one while talking in Facebook in the Old Ottawa And Bytown Pic's site
Horner Motors on 430 Gladstone Ave in Ottawa. Present owner has the sign with Star crest in upper left, Road King crest lower left. Durant crest upper right. Can't get him to show the full sign.
He says .. The floor is reinforced concrete and there was a ramp that allowed the cars in the building...Technically one could open a car dealership there today.

A continuing project this upcoming year will be to create a list of Durant/Star/Flint dealerships for the sake of history and later publication in the virtual museum. I thank everyone over the past years for submitting various information on the dealerships and keep them coming as you come across them stamped on the back of brochures, advertisements etc. that you buy or come across. Also photographs if you find them of the dealership. I'll add them to the list. Thanks everyone!

It's been awhile since anyone has posted any new dealerships on here for their cities and just wanted to let everyone know that I have started a list of dealerships by state and city. If you come across any of them while doing research or you purchase some literature with a dealership stamp on the back or front, let me know and if I don't have it on the list, I will add it. Thanks to everyone that has posted pictures and information so far.

I just received a large list in the mail today from Bob Smith with over 90 dealers from the U.S., Canada, Australia and even Switzerland. I started adding them today and I just sent an email to Bob saying once I get it completed with what I have and what Bob sent, we will post it somewhere on the DMAC site, maybe in the member section and on the Virtual Museum site. It will be modified from time to time as I get additional entries. Maybe with the Virtual Museum site, I can link the entry with a photograph if I can get them. Got to figure out how to do that, but maybe. Stay tuned and I'll let everyone know when I get it done.

My grandfather Clyde Walton sold vehicles made by Durant Motors in the 1920's from a garage located on Broad Street in Lansdale PA. In the 1950's when I was a kid the building was still being used as a garage for automobile repairs. This building remains in the family but is no longer an automobile repair business. There is a photo of the auto sales dealership showing the 'olden days', somewhere in the family. A 'then' and 'now' comparison would be interesting to some.

Thanks for the information Phil, I will add it to the list. Are you related to Ray Walton? He was a member of the DMAC for many years and brought his car out to some of our East Coast Meets.

Well, I thought I'd finish up the list of dealerships that Bob Smith sent me and sat down at the computer and started to enter all of them. Got the list done, then I headed to Google and did a search for some dealerships that I only had the names and a street name for and no city or state. Well I found an advertisement in the Chicago City Directory for the 1920's and guess what I found and advertisement for a Durant Distributor in Chicago with a list of 37 Chicago and around the state Illinois Durant/Star dealerships. I guess I'm not done. I've been putting them in a list, but I think I'm going to try and put this in an Excel Spread sheet. But for now I'll add them on the list. States that I don't have any dealers listed yet are?
Alabama
Alaska
Arizona
Delaware (although I supplied Frank W. a list of these years ago, but have to try and find it)
Hawaii
Idaho
Kentucky
Louisiana
Mississippi
Montana
Nevada
New Mexico
North Dakota
Rhode Island
South Dakota
Tennessee
Utah
Vermont
So if you have some literature you've collected and see if there is a stamp on the literature with a dealer name and address or live in cities in these states and get to the Library, see if they have some 1920's Polk City Directories or old newspapers and look for the Durant dealership advertisements and send me the information.

A few years ago, I had sent you the names of dealerships in Virginia. I have recently acquired early city directories from Cleveland, Milwaukee, NYC and other large cities from the twenties and thirties. I will check those this weekend for any additional Durant/Star dealerships. Thank you.
