Google Plans to Kill off its Auto-Insurance Comparison Tools

Google has realized two things :

1) It's harder and less scalable to create, structure, and organize useful content than it is to index it.

2) It's more profitable to let marketers compete with each other irrationally for clicks on ads against your index while handing you money than it is to become a marketer yourself.

...there are enough marketers who are bad at math to drive total their cost and your revenue up to a point where getting into the game just makes no sense. Just sit back and let them throw money at your monopoly index.

If you turn your monopoly index into competition with your customers, it just highlights your market power. That would be a no no.

Re: Google Plans to Kill off its Auto-Insurance Comparison Tools

Isn't the real story the fact that the major insurers refused to participate because they did not want to be compared on price alone because they felt it was degrading to their value of their services? Google some history articles and read it for yourself. Just goes to show how smart the auto glass guys have been for allowing them to do to us what they refused to allow to be done to themselves .
