This is not a Safelite bash, but just another first hand experience.

One of my major fleet account managers came to me today with question. He wanted me to look at a vehicle that just came off the road with a couple chip repairs that had been repaired by SAFELITE. He asked, "have these 2 chips really been repaired"?

So I put on my coat and go out to look at the so called repairs. WOW! Only a slight amount of resin actually got into the repairs. 1 nickel size bullseye and 1 small starbreak. Both looked less than half filled. Almost looked like never repaired, but I could see a small amount of resin did get into the chips.

He asked if I could improve them. Well, the star I could, but the Bullseye was so bad, I told him the best he could do is live with it and wait for failure and in the mean time, research who and where this was done. At that point contact the insurance co. and we can assist him at the proper refund from SGC.

I have seen many bad safelite repairs, but this was embarrassing to the repair industry. It really showed what the GREAT state of the art resin, and repair process of stinklite is really all about.

WOW keep it up stinklite, you make me look better everyday, every hour of the day! They really should not be in the repair industry. They are not even CLOSE to what I can do! Way to go Incompetent, untrained safetechs. Safelite repair is PATHETIC! At best.

Now it is going to be real interesting how many ding bat drones from stinker come out of the wood work trying to defend the crap work they do!!!!!!

Ok sorry I tried real hard not to bash stinklite but it is nearly impossible to avoid the inevitable! Or color coat the truth!

You get what you pay for as far as tech's go. Repair medics are on a hourly wage rate about the same as McDonalds. But I rather work @ McDonalds because its not seasonal

after you complete a repair and leave is the windshield still not broken ? Its a yes or no question

ob1 you are correct,,, It is still NOT broken, It is repaired, when done correctly.

xs are you saying repair techs are different from the replace techs? Around here when safelite goes out to do a repair they always have the new w/s with them. Even the jingle is all about bait and switch.

In this market. They have repair specialists"Repair Medics". Most are seasonal positions only. Just like landscapers and certain day laborers..

Well Dave Being a FLEET vehicle, do you suppose it might be possible the vehicle was out on the road and several hundred miles away? If the vehicle was here it would have been done here. Pretty simple answer. No one can travel several hundred miles to repair a couple chips! WOW! Thinking first, most times, is a good start.

ob1, this thread is not about repair vs replacement. I never stated repair was a new replacement. This is about quality repairs vs poorly done repairs. I don't know how YOU think I sound like a "PUPPET MASTER INSURANCE COMPANY". (I have never really met one). The fact is I am a true independent glass repair and replacement company, complete auto and residential glass of all types. I have been performing Professional windshield repair and replacement for almost 30 years now. There are times replacement is necessary, and times when repair is the best option. A professional knows the difference.

It sounds as if you have never learned the skills needed for quality repair work, and have no desire to do so. It's been proven a properly repaired area is actually stronger than the glass around it. But it does take the skills needed to accomplish that kind of quality. Please don't bash what you don't understand. I am done with this discussion.

Yes or No Question:

It is still a damaged windshield. The glass has been compromised and glued back together. Take the damaged windshield out and put it away for 50 years and then bring it on the Antiques Roadshow and they will point out the damage and give a lower value.

The vehicle came from being on the road, and got a few chips to the w/s. ok do you understand? the repairs were done on the road, away from my shop. The fleet manager brought the vehicle over to me to ask if in fact the chips were even repaired. WOW! The repairs were FAR FROM ACCEPTABLE! Horrible repairs. The manager stated they were done by a safelite tech with the great state of the art resins and technology. So let's not get into repair vs replacement that is irreverent. The fact here is how Bad the repairs were.

first off, who even cares. You spent time out of your life typing about a safelite repair on one of your accounts. ob1, If you get a nail in your tire do you replace it? A good quality resin, when cured, is more durable than the surrounding glass. A quality repair is no more noticeable than a slight bug splat. Replacing a repairable windshield is a waste.

The truth is a correctly repaired windshield is stronger in that area then a un-repaired area of that windsheild

xs is exactly correct. I have seen many times where a rock hits right on, or slightly next to a properly repaired chip, and it created new damage but did NOT effect the repaired area. the repair was stronger than the glass around the repair. Hands down a proper repair is stronger than the the glass around the repair.

Some of these replace only drones have no clue of what real quality repair means!
