The playlist isn't too bad, but not too exciting either. Several regualrly-aired videos there like 'Johnny and Mary'. But I am glad to see 'Caroline' there, as I wanted a watermark-free copy of that, and at least it's not another hip hop/early 00's fest

OK well it wasn't too bad; a couple of rare/seldom/never aired before on rage clips. But I got a glitch on the Concrete Blonde video

They played it twice - the second time right at the end. I have a clean copy of this clip anyway from their DVD if you want it.

That'll teach me for not viewing the whole program before coming here to (indirectly) ask if I can score a copy from someone else. I paused the video just after that glitch and then went off to do something else and haven't gone back to it yet.

I'll check the repeat and see if that's glitch-free.

Tonight's playlist is actually on the website! It seems to be a videos featuring animals theme; so I gather it will be 'Blue Monday '88' they're airing, which they haven't aired in years.

Rage started late due to golf running overtime Pet Shop Boys' 'Suburbia' was cut.

And they played the wrong versions of 'Blue Monday' (it's the 1988 version, which they haven't aired since 2002, that features the frog/dog) and U2's 'One' (they aired the Bono singing in a pub version again instead of the buffaloes in a field version, which I don't think I've seen on rage since 1992)

You would think someone would check they were playing the right clips!

The coming Monday night playlist is on the website already, and appears to be an Aussie hip hop special or something similarly awful

No playlist for tonight's show...

Well that was a disappointing Vault show. A theme I liked (female singers), but nothing that hasn't aired in recent years/predominantly common videos, and of course, a huge 'alternative' slant. There was some (within the last 5-10 years) clips among them too, which doesn't count as 'Vault' to me.

Strawberry Switchblade's 'Since Yesterday' without a watermark on it was the only thing I kept.

The vault themes are becoming quite boring. Yeah, there's a couple of songs that I wouldn't mind recording, but really couldn't be bothered and taking up valuable space on me hard drive.

Last week's was just a re-hash of the 'punk' playlists from the weekend prior (as was the Vault section aired on ABC3 last night), and this week's show is full of clips they've played in recent years - I don't think there's one that hasn't been aired in the last 5 or so years.

Though I'm hoping 'Relax' is the laser version they haven't aired since the 90s, I don't think. But I'm thinking it won't be.

I'm not liking that every Sunday night ABC show seems to be a metal night, too. Why devote so much time to metal specifically? I wouldn't mind if other genres got a look-in for that show as well, but they don't.

I thought the last few weeks of Vault shows have been pretty interesting, even if not necessarily my taste in music, but lots of clips I have never seen before.
Certainly an improvement on the weeks of rap/hip-hop that never seemed to end.

I even thought last night's show was a pretty good 80s show, generally pairing an artist's better known hits with one of their rarities/unknowns.

I'll take your word for it that most of these clips have aired in the past 5 years, I haven't been tracking them that closely, but there were quite a few I have never seen before.

Why don't they put Monday night playlists up on the website? I know they post on facebook, but if they put all the other nights playlists up on the website, why not Monday's?

Well bugger me, just had a look at the playlists on the website and someone is working overtime! Monday night, Tuesday night, Wednesday night!

I get the impression rage have been on 'skeletal staff' since around the time the election was announced, and still appear to be. They never comment on Facebook posts anymore, for example.

It never lasts, though. It'll probably happen this week, and that's it again, for a few months.

I agree, last week's episode was great; one of the best so far. This week is rather meh... though there are a couple of clips I only have digital copies from during the watermark years (Lenny Kravitz, Sinead O'Connor), so it will be nice to get watermark-free copies of those.

This weekend is a German-artists special, which will hopefully have some rare Vault stuff.

That's fantastic! I don't mind some of Fleetwood Mac's stuff, and there's some interesting clips here, but of more importance to me is rage are now occasionally deviating from their Monday night Vault "themes" and having some artist specials (I think this is the second one after the Rolling Stones one).

There are so many artists they could do specials on that they haven't covered for so long...

That's true.

They've done some similar themed Vault shows, though, like the one on the non-solo-Michael Jackson family members.

Yes I forgot about that one... but so far artist "themes" have been the exception not the rule. If they are running out of "theme" ideas maybe we will start to see more artist specials

Are they replacing this segment with women's soccer repeats now or am I reading the TV guide wrong?

Well it certainly looks like this week there is no Monday night (Tue morning) Vault. Whether this is permanent, or only during the W-League season, or only this week - time will tell...

I saw that when checking my electronic TV guide earlier today

W-League 'season'? I was hoping it was a once-off.

These Monday night Vault shows began in November last year, and they weren't disrupted then... why should they be now? Wishful thinking, perhaps.

Similarly, there's no Tuesday night ABC rage (which re-airs part of the Saturday night guest programmer/special) either, this week, from what I could see. There is a Wednesday night show, which runs for over 2 hours. Historically rage have used that to re-air the top 20 chart segment. I hope they do a Vault show instead.

They've been pretty unresponsive lately on the rage facebook page, not replying to comments etc., and now not allowing viewer posts on their page, other than as replies to things they post. Saturday night's playlist this week directed to last weekend's Saturday night playlist, too. Several of us pointed it out on the facebook page, but no response at all from rage so far (and no amended playlist - though it was a pretty rubbish show IMO, with nothing worth keeping).

I loved someone's comment on the Fleetwood Mac Vault playlist posted on the rage facebook page, along the lines of - "you play rubbish on the weekends, yet air this gold when no-one's watching"

I really hope not.

Who wants to watch (women's or men's) soccer at that hour?

Looking at next weeks' programming they are only showing the women's soccer on the Tues/Wed night - which is a repeat of their regular Sunday afternoon program.

It looks like they will only replay the Saturday afternoon soccer on the Mon/Tues night and next week there is no game broadcast in that slot so it should be back to normal vault segment.

Checking the soccer broadcast fixture it appears that the Saturday game shown last week was a one off to launch the season (although it was actually round 2 apparently). The W League season runs for 14 weeks plus 3 weeks of finals but in round 10 (Jan 1&2) there will be no broadcast game.

So it looks like we will be back to normal after tonight.

I've noticed Rage don't seem to be posting anyone's message on their Facebook page lately too.

I put up my Countdown episode requests for January last week and they haven't materialised on the Rage page yet.

Hopefully they will take anyone's requests on board at least and make note of them - I'd like to see a good January season considering there's 5 Saturdays next year. Here's hoping.

Yeah, you can only comment on posts rage make to the facebook page now, it seems. I haven't seen them comment on anyone's posts there, though, for a couple of weeks.

You can tag rage on facebook in your posts on their page by typing @rage and selecting rage when it comes up. That used to get their attention, but doesn't seem to anymore.

You can actually email rage: rage@abc.net.au - that might be another avenue worth trying.

Actually, there are only 4 Saturdays next January. Although there are 5 Sundays, rage date the playlists as Saturday night, so they will see it as there only being 4 retro episodes, most likely. The 1st January episode will be dated Saturday 31st December on the playlist, and will most likely be New Year's Eve 'party' music, as they've done for the last few years.

Do i record in 4:3 or 16:9?

I'm recording in 4:3, but several (if not most) of these videos might air in 16:9, due to either being widescreen or letterboxed 4:3, which rage usually enlarge. However, there were a couple of vault videos they've aired recently that were letterboxed but they did not enlarge them to 16:9. I wish they'd do that more often.

Whigfield's 'Sexy Eyes' will definitely be 16:9, as it was when it aired a few years ago. Same with Gina G 'Ooh Ah', BZ/Joanne, ATB, Jam and Spoon, Alice Deejay, Billie Ray Martin, Vengaboys, Dario G, Sonique - which have aired on rage in recent years, other than Vengaboys' 'Up and Down', which is letterboxed, so will probably be 16:9.

Eiffel 65, Shanks and Bigfoot, Urban Cookie Collective, and Melanie C have all aired in 4:3 in recent years.

Whigfield's 'Saturday Night' will be 4:3.

Ann Lee, ATC, JX and Aqua are all letterboxed, so will probably be 16:9.

I've asked someone to record it in 16:9 for me... but the ABC have got that additional '60 years of TV' bit to their watermark currently, which looks awful.

I just record the native MPEG stream as broadcast (which is 720 x 576 pixels) using a PC DVB receiver. Then I can post-process to my heart's content and never have to agonise over implied aspect ratios of whatever content is broadcast.

Implied 4:3 content is just the middle 75% of the MPEG stream, 540 x 576 pixels.

Nathan, rage isn't showing up in the guide on ABC, says sports is on all night after parliament :-(

Looks like you saw this after it aired. Yes, rage wasn't on Tuesday night (Wednesday morning) this week, but was on Monday night (Tuesday morning) for the usual Vault episode.

This coming week's Monday night episode funs for over 3 hours. I wonder what they'll air... hopefully something good.

I did, but it was aired in widescreen, and I recorded in fullscreen, so the left and right of the picture are chopped off.

I also kept Rachel Sweet 'Baby', but had to re-sync the audio, as it was 0.27 of a second out of sync with the video.

I kept Lene Lovich's 'It's You, Only You (Mein Schmerz)' (and changed the aspect ratio for it), but have it in another folder for videos with a watermark on them.

I didn't keep any of the Madness videos, as I had them all from when Suggs programmed in 2009, and 'Night Boat to Cairo' from the 2014 Vault special.
