Episodes of Countdown that Rage haven't aired 2019 update

It's been a couple of years since I have done this so I hope my record keeping was OK over the interim period - this is largely a cut and paste with an update.

Of the 47 surviving 1970's episodes, all have been shown (multiple times quite often) except for the following 4:

Dec 26 1976 Top 100 clips No78-64 (only the clip inserts tape exists)
Dec 11 1977 Top 100 clips style show (only the clip inserts tape exists)
ep 142 March 19 1978 Adelaide Festival (faulty audio - cannot be broadcast)
ep 159 July 16 1978 hosted by Jon English (exists as off air recording only)

The 43 broadcast quality surviving 70's episodes have been shown a combined total of 76 times with Aug 31 1975 (Sherbet) airing 5 times, July 8 1979 (Iggy Pop) 4 times, 6 others 3 times, 12 others have been shown twice and the rest at least once. As much as I love 70's episodes I do not want to keep seeing these episodes being repeated over and over when there are still so many from the 80's that have never aired on Rage, although I was glad to see 6 episodes shown on Sept 24 2016 for the Michael Shrimpton tribute.

For the 1980's I think it is as follows (Countdown Awards and Summer shows were not included in the numbering of episodes):

1980 47 episodes made, 38 shown, 2 believed missing with 7 still to air

226 February 10 1980 Ted Mulry (Ted Mulry Gang)

I believe there are 399 episodes of Countdown that definitely exist with possibly 404 if 5 episodes that had not been archived actually do exist as we saw in 2017 with the missing James Freud and Lene Lovich episodes airing.

Rage have aired 310 episodes after the 2019 Retro season which will leave between 89 and 94 (depending on missing episodes) still to air. If Rage continue to show around 15 episodes per year we could see the remaining ones that haven't aired in the next 6 years but that may be being a little optimistic, particularly seeing how many episodes from 1986 are yet to air.

Re: Episodes of Countdown that Rage haven't aired 2019 update

Thanks Armin!

From sources such as Jason’s database, I know about the following episodes in the 1970s which I can’t see referenced in this, nor the other thread on transmitted episodes.

29 Jun 1975 1975 26 "Bob Hudson, co-host Normie
[lost episode found FM simulcast audio cassette recording 95% complete]"
18 Jul 1976 1976 72 Sherbet live at Festival Hall
1 Jul 1979 1979 200 Marc Hunter

Do these also exist? Do I have correct information?

I wasn't aware of those 3 70s episodes existing. Certainly if one is only an audio recording then it wouldn't ever make it to air but great to know that it exists. Ep 200 I think they showed a documentary on the making of that episode a few years back but I don't know of the actual episode existing. Sherbet live might exist if it is a live concert that wasn't identified as Countdown.

As for the 80s questions:
Ep 230 with Ellen Foley was shown in 2017
Ep 388 was an Australian Crawl hosted show from 1983 which exists but hasn't aired as yet. The End Of The Decade Show (recorded in lists at Oct 11 1980) is actually the same as episode 224 (Dec 16 1979) which was used as an emergency standby tape as industrial action was common in this period. I'm not sure if it was shown on Oct 11 1980 as that was a Saturday but may have been shown instead of the usual repeat from the previous week. Ep 262 (Oct 19 1980) is not known to exist and it may be that they showed ep 224 that week. I should really add ep 262 to possible lost episodes for 1980 as I have no information for Oct 19 1980 and assumed that is when they showed a repeat of 224. If they didn't then there is a missing episode.

1981 - I do list Rock Awards, its just that the ABC didn't always give the episodes an episode number. The awards shows were numbered in 1980 (235) and 1981 (277) but after that it went a bit odd. In 1982 it was unnumbered but there is also no No 324 and the previous week (Duran Duran) was numbered 323/1 for some reason. In 1983 it is unnumbered but there is no ep 367 so it may have been that one. In 1984 it is unnumbered but there is no Ep 412. It had no number in 1985, 1986 or 1987 with only standard episodes having numbering in those years.

1982 - I assume you are asking whether the Countdown Fridays exist. I know that at least 3 episodes certainly exist but I don't know if any more do. There was a thread about Countdown Fridays on here once where we discussed that in detail.

1983 - I have no idea what that Jan 28 item is.
The Dec 5 episode was a standby program that they made in case of industrial action or emergency. It is just a clips episode that definitely exists that was made but never aired as it wasn't required. Maybe they aired it over the summer of 1983-84 but I am not aware of that.

Re: Episodes of Countdown that Rage haven't aired 2019 update

So thorough! Many thanks - this has sorted out my own spreadsheet!
