COUNTDOWN IS BACK THIS JANUARY, 2019 ... ON rage !!!!! Stay tuned below with regular Countdown full archival information for each Countdown episode rage shall be airing every Saturday throughout January ...
I guess this is the last weekend of rage goes retro I will be watching and recording. I had a feeling that the themes of each week would go into the 90s. It's started with The Factory already which is of course going on into the 90s, VILLLLLLLE!
Re: rage goes retro 4 already mentioned on the rage facebook page and not good :-(
The 90s were horrific enough the first time around and now Recovery and ummmm ... 10:30 Slot? Which hardly lasted is being played.
If rage are playing a full Recovery episode then that is 3 hours which will leave about 2 and a half hours which will either be 10:30 Slot, unless rage shows highlights in the morning.
Countdown may possibly get one or two episodes played or they may take the Countdown Revolution road in 1990, ughhhhhhh. Please no!
I'd love to destroy every Recovery in the ABC Archives. It baffles me that Countdown episodes from the 70s with Blondie, Alice Cooper and Plastic Bertrand are taped over but Recovery is all in tact ...
I saw on the rage facebook page yesterday the Recovery intro and I knew that would mean the ghastly show is coming on rage goes retro 4. They mention Custard, Tism etc. I hope rage only play one hour on Saturday night of performances and the rest Countdown or Countdown and Rock Arena but as rage are playing 2 hours of The Factory this weekend then it's not looking good for nest weekend with 3 hours of the worst music program ever made being Recovery.
Why 10:30 Slot has to feature is beyond me, seriously .....
Re: rage goes retro 4 already mentioned on the rage facebook page and not good :-(
 Boooo!!
Things shouldn't be played just because they are old and they exist. Countdown is loved because it was great. Recovery was a pile of garbage even at the time, so why revisit it now.
Hopefully there's plenty of backlash and Rage avoid the same mistake in future retro months.
[and I say all that as a lover of 90's - particularly the first half of the decade - music]
Re: rage goes retro 4 already mentioned on the rage facebook page and not good :-(
While the 90s might have been bad for non-rage ABC music programs, they weren't all bad musically. I liked a lot of dance/electronic-type music from the early and mid 90s (less so the late 90s). It wasn't all just 'grunge'.
But yes, 'Recovery' is bad. 'The 10:30 Slot' even worse.
The only saving grace may be if there are some (decent) Countdown Revolution episodes from 1990 (with good/rare videos); but I wouldn't count on there being that.

Michael
I say in 2019 we start a 'No Recovery or 10.30 Slot for Retro Month on rage' facebook page. It could just be full of hate for these shows.
Sounds like a GREAT idea!!!!!! I'd even rather a whole night of GTK to be quick frank!
I find it interesting also that rage haven't played the unscreened surviving episode of Flashez. A Flashez fan said there was one more episode to be played in the archives. The btis rage had left that they played a few years ago were really FAB

I'm a big fan of 90's music too - but the mainstream stuff like Brit pop Oasis Blur Suede etc not the alternative stuff like Nick Cave that you get on shows like Recovery.
Re: rage goes retro 4 already mentioned on the rage facebook page and not good :-(
That does it then. I will attend an Australian rock concert instead with many of the Countdown Aussie acts of the day instead. I don’t think I’ll bother to even rush back home as it is the night of Australia Day. Disappointing but I will make up for it with the Aussie rock concert that night.

Perhaps it would be a good idea if Rage started a retro month for fans of Recovery/ 90's alternative pop?
They had a Saturday night Recovery special in 2016 and 2017, plus I think a separate special (hosted by Dylan Whatshisname and Jane Gazzo) in 2016 to mark the 20th anniversary of the show. They can do that again if need be, outside of January.
A whole month of Recovery would be insufferable. Let's not raise the suggestion.

Was thinking of another month to keep January Recovery/10.30 slot free

Yeah, as expected, Week 4 seems like it will be saturated with 90s rubbish. Let's hope they squeeze in a Countdown episode, or more! I found myself just fast forwarding through The Factory, as it was complete crud. And to think, Rage could play two Countdown episodes in those 2 hours. Such a shame!

If retro week 4 is a write off I'm going to watch the Michael Shrimpton special from 2016! 70's heaven!
Yes that Michael Shrimpton special was really good....pity I missed the beginning..:white_frowning_face:
hopefully they will repeat it again sometime
I had a tour of the gordon street abc studios and went through the old countdown studio 31....sat in the green room and the dressing rooms where many guests sat...very nostalgic..visualised being there in the 70s...got some great shots ...wish I had been there in the day

Recorded the Shrimpton special but haven't watched it yet - tonight will be the perfect time to watch it. Will not be watching Recovery!
Re: rage goes retro 4 already mentioned on the rage facebook page and not good :-(
Tonight is very disappointing. That does it time to go out now. I will set the record for the Suze DeMarchi performance though am happy to forget the rest of tonight. Very disappointing Rage for the final Rage Retro Month Saturday. Only saving grace is we all get a 1982 Countdown and Beatbox show on Tuesday which I gather will air Wednesday morning January 30.
Re: rage goes retro 4 already mentioned on the rage facebook page and not good :-(
rage posted on facebook this morning:
'Good morning retro-Ragers! Tune in soon at 10:14am for some 1990s and 2000s goodies - and if you're free later tonight we'll be showing full eps of Recovery and the 10:30 slot from 12:33am on ABC + iview. (picture of Jane Gazzo)
my reply:
'I watched this all back in the day - sorry, the type of music I'll prefer to forget about. Bring on some real retro from 1980-88'
