If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

I have long hoped for the day I could programme RAGE. Okay, so that's most likely not going to happen. But what songs would you like to see played on RAGE? I would certainly not choose something that has been played and replayed over and over for the last 30 years. If my choices have been played before, I've missed out getting them, so here goes ...

This Time - Dragon
Old Siam Sir - Wings
Goodnight Tonight- Wings
Bright Eyes - Art Garfunkel
Come On Aussie, Come On - Mojo Singers
You Weren't In Love With Me - Billy Field (not the Countdown version)
State Of The Heart - Mondo Rock
All Through The Night - Cyndi Lauper (I think there's only a live version)

And that's only the tip of the iceberg for me.

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

'This Time', 'Bright Eyes' and 'Goodnight Tonight' have actually aired in recent years.

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

I won a competition to program an hour of rage in 2010, and chose a selection of clips that I knew they had (some had aired about 7 years earlier, but before I had a digital TV recording set-up), or were likely to have, as part of the criteria for winning was how much they liked your playlist. The playlist that went to air was:

TRANSVISION VAMP Revolution Baby (MCA)
MEL & KIM That's The Way It Is (Supreme)
BANANARAMA Love In The First Degree (CBS)
THE BANGLES Hazy Shade Of Winter (Liberation)
NIK KERSHAW I Won't Let The Sun Go Down On Me (MCA)
DEEE-LITE Runaway (Elektra)
EIGHTH WONDER I'm Not Scared (CBS)
DEBORAH HARRY Strike Me Pink (EMI)
OINGO BOINGO Stay (MCA)
MONACO Sweet Lips (Polydor)
YAZZ Never Can Say Goodbye (Warner)
COLDCUT featuring YAZZ & THE PLASTIC POPULATION Doctorin' The House (Sony)
NINA HAGEN Smack Jack (Sony)
THE THE Slow Train To Dawn (CBS)
YOUSSOU N' DOUR Undecided (Sony)

Since then, the Mel & Kim, Bananarama, Bangles, Nik Kershaw, Deee-Lite, Oingo Boingo, Nina Hagen and The The clips I selected have aired on other playlists. The Eighth Wonder video aired the following night as part of the 4th Wild Card special.

I wanted the original 1983 video for the Nik Kershaw track, but they didn't have it. It has since aired on a repeated Countdown episode, though.

I also had Nik Kershaw's 'The Riddle' on my original playlist, but was told at the time that they didn't have it. They have since found/acquired it, though, as it aired in December 2013 as part of Kim Wilde's guest programming.

They phoned me during the week before it went to air to pick 2 more videos (the solo Yazz one and the Deee-Lite video were my choices), due to a couple of videos I asked for not being available. My original playlist also had Sabrina's 'Sexy Girl', which aired in 2013 and 2015, and Tori Amos's 'Winter' (hasn't aired), Voice of the Beehive's 'Monsters & Angels' (hasn't aired), and Space's 'Begin Again' (aired the following night as part of the 4th Wild Card special).

If I were to choose another playlist now, I'd be inclined to pick a few more obscure videos, because they have aired several in the ensuing years that I never would have guessed they'd have. I would of course select videos that had not aired on rage in many years/in the digital era.

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

I remember that, I think they had a competition where you had to work out as many clues as possible as to what link adjoining clips in a playlist had. They should try that again.

Apart from a few selections during Retro month I remember a couple of clips getting played after I had mentioned them on the old messageboard, maybe I had an influence.

The only clip I remember definitely being responsible for was when they had a request segment about 10 years ago as my name appeared on the screen. I was rapt and surprised that they played the Matt Moffitt clip after requests in previous weeks had been boring, oft repeated clips such as Windowlicker.

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

Many times I have requested that rage play any of the solo clips from Cal (Mark Callaghan). I know of at least two - “I’ll Be With You” and “Do It Rite” but “Golden Years” was the second single from his album so I would have thought a clip for that as well?

Anyway, I learned only a few days ago that the ABC has lost these clips. Gone forever it seems.

Aaaargh!! I am distraught!

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

Rage aired a bunch of clips I'd suggested (over a period of time, rather than in one go) for the 2016 Saturday night Vault special, though I had requested them all years earlier, suggesting they do indeed keep lists of suggestions. Few are made these days, though, as the facebook posts don't really call for suggestions anymore.

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

Some interesting requests here. So many videos out there. I wish Rage would reopen their requests on Facebook, and allow us to ask for videos rarely seen. If anyone could upload the Rage version of Bright Eyes anywhere, that would be great. The only one I can find is plastered with annoying graphics and a shaky picture. Otherwise, hopefully they will play it again sometime in the next 50 years! :)

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

A Madonna special and during January!

I got a video played on rage too. Eurythmics 'Shame'. One of their rare videos...The script came up with my name from Florey, NSW. W T F? Missed it, but friends and family said they saw it. Nathan, i think you put it on disc for me???. Still to this day, the video for 'Shame' is not on Youtube!

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

I have 'Bright Eyes' from rage on disc. Don't know how to upload to Youtube and couldn't be bothered learning. I'm sure it will get plwyed again soon.

I think I did send you it, but if not, I can.

'Shame' is blocked on YouTube, for some reason. I tried uploading it several months back.

I assume you're joking. That happened in 2007, the last full special they've had. They had a Monday night Vault episode on her though in 2016 when she toured here.

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

Glory Of Love - Peter Cetera

Don't think it's ever been on Rage, has it?

'This Time', 'Bright Eyes' and 'Goodnight Tonight' have actually aired in recent years.
Was 'This Time' by Dragon the Countdown performance? I was meaning the original film clip from King's Cross.

The original clip has aired on rage, showing the group in a car etc.

Doing a quick search of the rage playlists, it has aired on:

30 August 2014 (a Saturday night Vault special)
25 February 2017
30 December 2017 (a best guest-programmers of the year special; presumably a repeat of the February 2017 airing)

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

Again, not sure if these have been on Rage before. Even if they have, I'd love them to be on again.

1975

Sailing – Rod Stewart

1976

Convoy – CW McCall
Devil Woman – Cliff Richard

1978

Six Ribbons – Jon English

1979

Carrie – Cliff Richard

1980

'Sailing' has aired as a standalone clip on rage, albeit during the era where the ABC1 watermark (as it was, then) was plonked within the 4:3 region of the screen, in March 2012. I've used two separate 15-second snippets of it in my 'Australian top 100 singles of 1975' (at #24) and 'Australian top 100 singles of 1976' (at #57) videos, on YouTube. I re-did the audio for it, though, as from memory the original audio was mono and not the best.

from 21:18

from 12:35

I do hope it airs on rage again, though, some day, as it would be nice to grab it without the watermark.

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

Thanks Nathan. Hopefully, the programmers of Rage tune in to Countdown Memories, and get some ideas about what to play in future. Great compilations!

Someone I know suggested they might do this indeed. I asked earlier this year whether anyone had a digital copy of the solo Deborah Harry clips shown after Blondie's guest programming in 2003, and presto, they had a Blondie special, re-airing those clips back in June or something. While it may just have been a coincidence, there was something else aired on rage that I'd expressed a wish to see again - I forget what it was now, though.

This person also joked that the late 80s/early 90s dance vault episode that aired a few months ago could have been programmed by me, as there were several videos (though most from rage) I'd previously uploaded to my YouTube channels.

I think rage are definitely aware of this forum's existence; though whether they check it on a regular basis, or at all, I don't know.

Re: If you hosted/programmed RAGE, what would you request?

YES !!!!!

Carrie - Cliff Richard

My request has been answered on the Vault tonight. Rage programmers, thank you for reading this (I think you do) and taking notice.
