Coming up to 25 years in April

Re: Where Rage Started out

WOW, how utterly COOL!

rage was SOOOO fabulous in the beginning. Started just a few months before Countdown ended...

Re: Where Rage Started out

Rage should show its very first broadcast for the actual anniversary date - or show the first Top 50 chart for its first weekend.

I'd do something special if I were them anyway.

Re: Where Rage Started out

I also see Rage went for only 5 hours 5 mins back in '87. I wonder what happened between 5.00am and 7:00 or 7:30am?

Re: Where Rage Started out

Wow, thanks for that Guru! . Uninterrupted adult party music?

Patrick, this was the top 50 the week that Rage started, although I don't know if it was actually aired/when they started airing the top 50 (given the 5.5 hour length program, I'm guessing it didn't air the very first week):

Interestingly enough, Molly Meldrum is on the Royal Children's Hospital Appeal on the other network the same night as rage's debut. If only someone could invent the TV time machine.

I remember taping the top 50 off rage in these days, it wasn't on Saturday morning, however it was on from 5:AM Sunday.

Re: Where Rage Started out

Is this Top 50 Countdown Chart from AMR or ARIA?

Up until June 1988, ARIA used AMR's charts, after which point ARIA started doing their own. Rage then used ARIA's charts while Video Hits used AMR's. It all become moot though when AMR wound up operations at the end of 1998, meaning that Video Hits also switched over to ARIA.

Re: Where Rage Started out

Good idea Patrick, rage should show the very first episode again to celebrate 25 years. However, would they have kept it? after all, it's just videos back to back? a great idea that we all know the staff at rage would not think of!

Re: Where Rage Started out

Apparently, rage told me a few years ago that the first shows are not really kept as they were just live video clips played :-(

Re: Where Rage Started out

After watching the brilliant programing on rage last night from Architecture In Helsinki, rage surprised me.

rage decided to just play a wide variety mix of videos from Berlin, Japan, Bay City Rollers, Kansas and Chicago... THIS reminded me of the good old days of watching rage on the weekends in the 80s when you NEVER knew what would come up.

I HOPE more spontaneous programming will be played this year on rage like they did last night after the programers. At one point I was wondering if rage goes retro was back for a moment!!!

Especially seeing Berlin's 'Sex (I'm a ....) played for no apparent reason this morning really reminded me of rage in 1987 which is when I first saw 'Sex (I'm A ....) video played ever on Australian TV! It was like a mini Wild Card special for rage this morning!!!

Re: Where Rage Started out

It wasn't entirely spontaneous programming, Jason. You'll notice that each of the band names in this 'mini wild card' playlist contains a city or country name in it, just like Architecture in Helsinki. Took me a few minutes to spot, as there was no mention of it it in the blurb on the main Rage website page.

Re: Where Rage Started out

O M G Nathan, I am so dumb NOT to have realized.

You are a fricking G E N I U S! Why wouldn't rage mention a special, very interesting... Hmmm
