Re: JUST FOR FUN - I'm the Rage Director for January

Sounds good to me.
Get in line though. The Countdown Junkie goes first.

Re: JUST FOR FUN - I'm the Rage Director for January

First of all I'd let others from here have first dibs as I'm happy to concede some have a higher musical knowledge than yours truly.

But after that I'd obviously play what I've already requested in the Rage forum, with plenty of 1982/83 episodes not aired.

I'd also try to find a way to show the 1978 Adelaide Festival episode that is supposedly unsuitable for broadcast due to alledged picture/sound issues. If possible I'd do a highlights package of said show as being an Adelaide boy I'm very keen to see it.

I'd also try to locate the unedited segments of Boy George's visit to Adelaide in 1984 as I want to see if I can be spotted in the crowd!! Seriously I'd be very interested to see that Culture Club visit in its entirety.

Recovery/The 10.30 Slot would be banned, some Countdown Revolutions would be shown and maybe have a guest co-presenter with me - someone like Boy George or Grace Jones - wouldn't that be something?

It's nice to dream of course - why is it that the forum users here have a better idea of what constitutes a great Retro season than the Rage programmers who seemingly know little??

Re: JUST FOR FUN - I'm the Rage Director for January

We all have our own personal wishes so I would not personally subject my wants over everyone else. I am quite happy to have all eras shown even though my personal interest is in Australian music from the 80's.

I just have the opinion of what makes Rage Retro better is when Rage adhere to the following 2 points:

1 - Don't repeat material previously aired on Retro

2 - Stick to ABC programs and don't show common clips in between segments - they may be old but it is not what makes Retro great. Nobody cares about common older clips when they can be seen elsewhere and usually show up in guest programmers lists throughout the year anyway.

Retro can be measured like dog years. It is only on in January so if they repeat a program like Hitscene which was shown in 2002 that is only 8 seasons ago, so effectively just 8 months ago.

If Retro was shown all year round it wouldn't be a big issue but as it is only a few weeks in January it builds up great anticipation. That's why these repeats and common clips seem to get up every one's noses.

Think I'll post this message on Rage as well but as no one actually adheres to suggestions there it is a waste of 2 minutes doing a cut and paste.

Yep, absolutely agree, I just thought if I had the reines for a week, this is what I would do. But yeah, In reality, taking others requests would be the basis for running rage. Something that is not happening now.

Umm, I can see partially where your coming from, but guest programmers tend to choose a lot of triple J stuff. I have no problem with people liking triple J material, but this seems to be the only music videos shown on rage during the year. My friend and I look at the rage playlists through out the entire year, and we are constantly peeved off on the lack of good 70s 80s material that is not shown, it's mostly current grunge/indie/metal, noise that makes me cringe.

Agree, very good point. Just something to consider, material that was shown back in the nineties and early norties, would of been taped by people onto VHS. I guess repeating stuff gives people like me a chance to capture a nice clean digital copy direct to there DVD recorder, so in a way, some repeats aren't necessarily the end of the world.

I agree Mark its a great chance to get a digital copy thats why id love them to repeat the 70's countdowns again. And I love them to play top 40 hits from the 70's in between.

Yep we all have different preferences so at least a sharing of 60's 70's 80's and some 90's shows and music clips would be fair to everybody.

COME ON ABC BE FAIR TO EVERYBODY ITS NOT HARD TO DO!!!
