Distributor rotor for Straight 8 engine

Please excuse me if i am posting in the wrong place.

I have a 1925 Locomobile Junior 8 and need a new rotor for the distributer.

I am in the UK and have no iodea where to buy one from.

I think that Durant used the same engine (Miller) and i would have thought the distributer might well be common to quite a few engines.

If anyone could suggest who to contact to buy a rotor it would be very helpful.

1 have had the car for some 26 years and with age have lost contact with a fellow Junior 8 tourer owner who used to be in Chicago area.

Another thought is to change the complete distributer. Any comments on that would also be very welcome.

Many thanks

Mike

Re: Distributor rotor for Straight 8 engine

The engine you should have is a overhead valve 66 hp motor developed by locomobile. (riker). Ignition should be a de'jon distributor. The distributor is mounted on the front half of the generator. I do have the generator but the distributor that I have is cracked also. Darn pot medal. De'jon distributors are starting to be hard to find. When you see them for sale make sure they are single points not dual points. The dual point one belongs to an 8-80. The model 8-70 had a dual ignition bendix. I do have the 8-70 distributor. 1 possible source is e-bay for your rotor finger. Try and match up your old finger and good luck. Just a thought, I know I saw on e-bay a rotor finger for a 8-80. Ask the seller a question of internal diameter. They might be the same? :)

Re: Distributor rotor for Straight 8 engine

Many thanks for the info.

My distributer has dual points so I guess it is a 8-80

A piece of the rotor finger broke away where it sits over the drive shaft. I was thinking of bending 1/4 inch wide strip of thin staimless steel around the base and glueing in place. Now i know what make and model distributer to look for I will start searching as you suggest.

Once again many thanks.

I am in England UK near Henley On Thames.

Bought the Locomobile from Belgium about 20 years ago. It had been in Australia.
