Restoring my car and struggling to get the rear wheels off. I believe they may of been on for 50 years and not removed.
I think it is a cone end on the driveshaft, have made a puller that spreads across 3 wooden spokes on two sides of the wheel and a bar that connects across the driveshaft, put a lot of load on it and cant remove the wheel, I have heated the hub at the same time but its not moving.
Any ideas will be appreciated.
May need to get a puller made that screws onto the wheel hub and has a reaction bolt through the centre to the driveshaft.
Any ideas or a puller to buy/hire will be greatly appreciated.
They made a tool that screwed on to the actual axel, that you hit with a hammer to shock the hub loose. The name escapes me at the moment, I'll send you a picture of the tool tomorrow morning.
Hopefully he has this wheel off by now (April of last year!) Hub puller is the tool. For wood wheel cars you unscrew the hubcap, take the cotter pin out and unscrew the large nut and probably screw it back on a few threads(leaving room for the hub to "pop" off). Then soak with whatever you use to loosen threads. I don't think we need to get into that discussion. The hub puller screws onto the hubcap threads with the center tapered screw snugged up to the end of the axle. Now the rest is up to undoing time and pressure. Leave that sit for a time(doesn't matter how long) Snug it up some more, rap the end of the tool. The taper on the axle and the taper on the hub have been together for many years. The taper fit is what propels the car, not the square axle shaft key. Do not pull on the wood spoke wheels with some kind of steering wheel puller! Another discussion. Hopefully this makes sense for this car, this is how it is on my 6-14.
