Brake Light Questions

Hello all, recently bought a 1927 Durant- we rewired the brake light and noticed it doesn’t have the mechanical part that brightens the light

What is needed to make the light work how we have in 2026

If the older models didn’t have this mechanism do I even need to bother with it/ is it legal to drive that way?

So if we do go the route of adding it do we need to have a different light such as 2 prong?

Any help is greatly appreciated, thank you

Re: Brake Light Questions

Hi Hannah. I was just working on the brake light wiring on my 29 model 65. You should have a two filament bulb in the back. If you follow the wiring from the back light along the frame toward the front, you will come to an actuator switch. It has a spring leading to it with the other end attached to a rod connected the foot brake. I just had to clean the electrical connections and adjust the spring tension. Good luck with yours.
