oil pump

Hello Guys, My oil pump is leaking around where it bolts up to block, Can anyone tell me the steps to remove the pump in order to repair the gasket? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Re: oil pump

I believe the pump on the 14L is within the oil pan. What might be leaking is the oil filtrator bolted externally with a gasket. Gasket is pretty easy to change out.

Re: oil pump

Thanks for the info but I know where the oil pump is on the 14L.
It’s at the rear of the block on drivers side. Just not sure if I can just unbolt it & pull it out or is more involved.
Not sure if the pickup is made into the block or pump.
Thanks
Roger

Re: oil pump

If it is the casting bolted to the driver's side about where #6 cylinder is then it's most likely the oil system pressure relief valve. It has a factory maximum oil pressure setting of 40 psi. Unbolt it and make a new gasket and torque to the proper specs.

Re: oil pump

Thank you for the response. I do know that it has 2 gears in it with one that has a drive gear that runs off the camshaft. If I unbolt from the block I can just pull it out? lol don’t want little parts flying all over the place🤣

Are you sure you have a 14L?

Re: oil pump

Ok, my bad. After some research into the issue, the 14L and 15L are very similar. The 15L and (15U which I have) are different in several respects. One being, the 15U has an internal oil pump with the relief assembly mounted where the oil pump is on the 14L.
I believe you can just remove the oil pump, dismantle, clean, and make new gaskets using the same thickness materials.

Re: oil pump

Thanks very much for getting back with me.
Is the pickup tube made in the block or on the pump? I shouldn’t have to remove the inspection cover (I don’t think) just the 4 bolts holding the entire pump to block. Just concerned about the pick up tube.
Thanks again
