I started to get my 25 Star ready for the local 4th of July parade and the fan bracket broke and the Bendix fell apart. Thanks to the "junk" my girlfriend want me to throw away, I got them both repaired.

I've replaced so many Bendix's that I'm not sure if the new one I installed is the correct one. It is 5 1/4" long, has a ten tooth gear and a 1 3/4" throw. I noticed that only about 1/4" of teeth engage the flywheel. Is this acceptable? There's only 1/4" on the shaft left to add a longer Bendix.

Each replaced Bendix had the ring/washers detached from the gear. What doe this ring do? Is it a problem to keep using it? Is it a sign of something else?
