I entered my 1927 Star Model R Coupe in the AACA Driver Participation Class (DPC) at Hershey. DPC tends to be forgiving of modern upgrades, especially if they relate to safety, such as turn signals, over the shoulder seat belts, etc. The judges overlooked a number of sins (like the use of turnbuckles to extend the side mirrors' sight lines past the trapezoidal cabin) and certified the car. Their main criticism concerned the upholstery, which is not period correct, much less original to the car. I am ready to spring for new upholstery, but first I have to research the original upholstery and locate a shop which can handle the re-upholstery job with competence. I spent about a month preparing the car and trailer for the show and about three weeks decompressing after the show, but the satisfaction was worth it.
