Interesting to see that short version of the 1936 DeVo write up .. I have 3 page write up by Keith Marvin. Cedric Pierce of Denver South Africa found the car and was going obtain it, but never did. Passed though many hands, non of which made any progress on its restoration. In Nov 1976 it was purchased by R.R.Hofmeyr of Boksburg South Africa, and the long restoration began, the entire car dismantled for frame up treatment. The car itself was assembled by the M.P. Mollar Co of Hagerstown, Maryland etc etc. The firewall has Hayes Body Corp, Grand Rapids, Mich. 185-3701. On the right front of the Continental four engine J 27 R. Rear of engine C400A606B and on the floorboard Continental 1001 possibly preceded with 41.
This is still a mystery what the alpha used by Conny means. Bob Smith and a few of us have tried to make sense of the alpha for dates.. the 27 is the day.
185 for Hayes body is same used for 5 passenger 4 door sedan on the 1933 Beacon, 1933 Flyer, 1934 Red Seal. Oddly the C-400 Frontenac has no Hayes plate just some number stamped in the firewall, C-600 Frontenac the same.
41 also makes sense as the model is using 1934 Red Seal parts / suspension.
C400A used in 1933 Beacon, 1934 Red Seal and 1933 C-400 Frontenac.
Its basically a Beacon with Reo grill, steel wheels instead of wire.

Got my Durant Partner today and it looks nice....and thick! A lot of DeVaux info in this one. What is the sedan pictured at the top of page six with the two ladies looking at it? Nice looking with the twin chrome horns and the chrome trimmed split windshield and side mounted spare-two?. It looks to have the "Jumbo" steel spoked wheels on it with generic hubcaps. Where is it today? Sharp! Thanks to all involved.
Hi Ross: I have seen that picture mixed in with DeVaux ones. That is a top of the line 33 Continental Ace. Bill is restoring a 32 DeVaux and when you see it you will see the difference. I believe this body is the same one used on Bob,s 33 Durant. Doors hinged the same. Grill and front is Continental. Hubcaps and wheels different also.

Do You own a car built by Durant? Just good memories
Nope the Ace body is nothing like the 1932 680 De Vaux, 1932 685 Fronty and 1932 633 Durant that all share same Hayes body, fenders, dash etc only engines different 40A on the 680 and 32A on 685 / 633 plus doors in hood on the 633 and 670 rad / rad shell. US Ace body is 181, Can Fronty Ace 191. 680 De Vaux we only have three of the body numbers 166, 168 and 170 with so few left, missing standard coupe and custom coupe. Myron's custom convertible coupe is 168. The only surviving 685 Fronty coupe has lost its Hayes body tag. Unknown models made on the 1932 633 with only two surviving Bobs coupe has lost its Hayes plate and Reid's coupe has S instead of 3 numbers. Special ?? with only 9, 11, or 15 ? per word of mouth 633's made so promo or production ?? Lost in the mists of time.

I did get my Spring issue forwarded threw my hometown post office this time....I see the publisher is adding the words "Address Service Requested" near the address on the back, that along with a couple of Irate phone calls to Leavenworth must have done the trick....Since I am restoring a '32 DeVaux this addition is very helpful, thanks to all involved....Steve, hope you have gotten your magazine by now, its a good one.
