The 5 amp field fuse keeps blowing in the generator. Today I installed a solid state relay (cut off) in the hopes of eliminating one possibility.
The ammeter registered a charge for about 20 seconds then the fuse blew again. Does anyone know of a quick fix or am I going to take the generator to a repair shop. Any recommendation on removing the generator? Should the radiator be removed to provide better access to the timing chain cover?
All suggestions are appreciated.

Probably needs to go to the shop. The chain cover does not need to come off. Simply remove the oil filler and that will expose the generator nut. Remove the nut, unbolt generator and it will slice to the rear off the gear. Gear and chain will remain in place and not lose timing. DO NOT rotate engine while generator is removed! If new gen gasket us made, make sure the bottom oil drainback hole is not blocked.
