Just a little over a week to send in your donation to the Durant Motors Automobile Museum Foundation

Hello Everyone;
The end of the year is quickly approaching and time for everyone in the U.S. to make those last minute donations to charities to be eligible for a tax deduction. December 31, 2018 is the cut off deadline. So far the Treasurer of the museum Foundation has told me that he has received no donations for the museum at all!. Very disappointing from such a group of members that love their cars and their cars have brought such great joy to them over the years. Common people we can make this happen but you've got to donate! The museum is a registered non-profit in the State of Michigan and has filed for non-profit charitable status with the U.S. Internal Revenue Service and is pending approval. This was submitted in July and we should have a determination by the end of January. I don't see any problem with our approval by the IRS as I wrote the application for the DMAC back years ago and got that approved. Below is what IRS says about donating prior to the formal written approval.

When the IRS approves a timely filed exemption application, exempt status is recognized back to the date the organization was created. Thus, while an application is pending, the organization can treat itself as exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3). For example, it must file Form 990 (instead of an income tax return) while its application is pending. However, contributors to the organization do not have advance assurance of deductibility because the organization’s exemption is pending. If the organization ultimately qualifies for exemption for the period in which the contribution is made, the contribution will be tax-deductible by the donor. Alternatively, if the organization ultimately does not qualify for exemption, then the contribution will not be tax deductible.

This is directly from the IRS web site so to quote them "...While an application is pending, the organization can treat itself as exempt from federal income tax under section 501(c)(3)"...

So common, get out the check book, get that money order and send it to the Durant Motors Automobile Foundation at 1043 73rd Street, SE, Grand Rapids, Michigan 49508-7477 today! Any amount would be appreciated, $5, $10, $20 or more!
