Our W5 engine has now been completely rebuilt after installing two sleeves. I just have water in the radiator. I have been surfing the net on what coolants are being used in these old engines. Some use antifreeze or a mixture and some say use water only. What are you using?? All suggestions appreciated.

I have used "Ethylene Gycol" antifreeze (the green stuff) in the 1932 Frontenac for over 40 years and have had good results. I always use "distilled water" to dilute the anti freeze as purchased from Canadian Tire. I collect the water from my dehumidifier in the summer months to get the distilled water. No lime or chemicals in it.

I also use ethylene gycol in all my rigs year around....Most will have a rust inhibitor as well as a water pump lubricant, this may help detour rust pitting and pinholing...Using just plain water can prove disastrous if you forget to drain in cold weather.
