Re: OVERSIZE Stem valves for W4 W5 gone.

Don't you just love those books of info

Durant 4cyl 1926-28 Models M2, M4 & 40

1926 Durant was A22 overhead, no Durant 1927 until reintroduced April 1 1928 as M2, M2 car / truck to Sept 3 1928 and split M4 car and S4 truck to Dec 31 1929. Jan 1st the 40 is born to Dec 311 1929.

I had lad on forum and later in emails tell me his Conny books indicate 20L was Star, 14U was Durant and 9L was Star. Really .. lets try 20L is 55 Durant, 14U is Flint B60 and 9L is Flint Z18.

Its like the book on Don's Bulbs site with incorrect info. Guide
universal catalog #806 lamps and lamp parts July 1st, 1937

It says under Durant
1929, 30, 31 610, 612, 614, 615, 616, 619 uses Glolite 944GL.
Lets see. 610 replaced the US 407 in Sept 1930, 610 is Oct 1930, 614 is Jan 1930, 615 Rugby is 1930, 616 Rugby is 1931, 619 is May 1931. Don't see any 1929 there in the new series for 1930 and up. No mention of the 407 Oakland and Leaside 1930 which also used 944GL.

Two lines below that 1931 / 32 610, 612, 614, 615, 616, 619 (Canada only) Depress Beam H 11471.
We didn't make 610, 612, 619, we did make 407, 611, 614, 615, 616, 618, 633 that used 11417 1931 / 32, plus Frontenac E 618, E 670, 685. (1933 Fronty C-400 / C-600 used convex Depress Beam H 12887)

One has to be cautious using period books for accuracy.

Re: OVERSIZE Stem valves for W4 W5 gone.

The Continental 6W engine was in the Flint H-40 and the B-40....Man, I could have used those valves with oversize stems a couple of years ago....As it were I bought valves on ebay that were too long then shortened the stem length and drilled the pin holes with a carbide drill.

searching ONE VALVE ...TO GO !

We still need one standard size new or NOS valve to get our in chassis valve job done for the W4.

Back together, up and running

It will be one month tomorrow? I got into this...I could have bought Egge valves from the start but I'd still have 2-4 weeks of waiting time for them to trim up valves to fit. Price was fine if your not in a hurry :)

Started right up in 30 degrees at 10:30pm with a few COLD coughs...Warmed up we raced around the block and surly pee-off the neighbors with our squealing glazed brakes and then high balling it through "Dead Man's Curve" 3 times.
We got a good shimmy going once(loose king pins, tire rod ends )coming out of the curve and the ignition stumbled(miss and coughs) from our worn out distributor bushings when we pushed a bit in second on a straight-a-way. Worn distributors really don't like Higher RPMs or any RPMs!

Got the head re-torqued once back good an hot . 45-lbs torque went right down to 25-30 lbs. We'll hit the torque once more. 3 usually does it fine.

Now on to something easy ,a slow leaking tire tube.
