I have the oil pan off my friend's Star touring to check bearing clearances and look for any future trouble spots. The engine has aluminum pistons, and I suspect they are replacements although our period literature does not specify the original piston material. Model T pistons were cast iron, and upgrading to aluminum pistons is common practice when rebuilding one of those engines.
I would like to get a better idea of what work has been done on this engine over the years. What was the original piston material in these cars?
