Identifying a Transmission

The input shaft on my 25 Star transmission has a lot of slop so I thought I'd rebuild it. Then I found a spare transmission in the pile of parts that came with the car.

In comparing the two, the spare has a filler plug on the side while the one in the car doesn't. The spare also appears to have a mounting bracket attached while the one in the car is bolted to the frame cross member. Otherwise, the units look alike. The one in the car has "18451" cast in it and the spare has "W18021" with an "A" beneath it.

Can anyone help me determine if these are interchangeable?

Re: Identifying a Transmission

Is the mounting bracket attached to the top/front of the case?
Are the shifter tops installed?

Thanks Don.

The bracket is attached to the top. Looks like a piece of angle iron. I'll have to take another look at the transmission (in storage) to see if the bracket's on the front.

The shifter top is there but not the lever that extends into the car.
