Re: W4 and W5

W4 has a 3 1/8" bore and has the wrist pin clamped in the con rod.
W5 has a 3 3/8" bore and has the wrist pin captured in the piston with circular locks.
The piston stroke is the same for both engines. (They even use the same crank).

Re: W4 and W5

Don, Are the cranks and cams interchangeable? Except for the different style to the rods, are they interchangeable? Can you think of any short block parts that would not interchange between W5 and W4? How about valves and valvetrain. The reason I ask,I have a few of these motors and I would like to build up two good ones, possibly using "upgrade" suggestions offered by Lance Haynes and others.I value the opinions you experienced club members can share!

Re: W4 and W5

Other than rods and pistons, everything is dimensionally interchangeable. Double check the rear bearing housing and seal block. Even the head is interchangeable.
Basically, the only thing Continental did to upgrade to the W5 was increase the bore.
