I'm restoring a 1932 Durant Rumble Seat Coupe and I don't have the 2 steps and support brackets. Has anyone got these parts?
OR!!! Has anyone tried to use Model A Ford or Chev parts on a Durant?

I have made many step plates in the past, I know I do have some patterns for the earlier cars. If I don't, we may be able to find someone to let us use theirs for a pattern.
A word of caution here and that is the 29 and 30 Durant step plates do not interchange. The 29 ones are a big aluminum casting unit bolting on the forward (front) side of the fender. Take a look at Rick Botti's photos of his 29 Durant Roadster and take a look at Will Dyck 30 Durant rumble seat roadster picture 4th from the right and you can see the big difference and location. I restored both of these cars and so had a advantage to know. I also gave Rick a extra 29 Durant rumble seat step plate that he has. It was in pretty good shape too but will not fit the 30 Durant. the Chevy ones are quit close in 1930. BTW the Butters can make you anything.

Thanks Lance, I knew about the big step plates on the earlier cars but not the years involved. I think I can find steps that Mike Butters can copy and he is only about 30 miles from me. I also may need his castings of one fender light base piece and one diamond piece for the bumper.
Will try to follow up on the possible use of the Chevy step.
BTW I am also the proud recipient of the Lance windshield assembly , given to me by Jim for my Locomobile project.

You mean the chromed pressed metal 3 spear motif foot that the splits sideways at the light stump under the pot ? They weren't cast orig. Same thin material like the chrome headlight or fender pots. Don't find many that aren't split, both mine are. Had thought about using a section of pipe to act as a washer under the foot to take the pressure off that.
612 Deluxe Coupe-Frank Lersch, 4th pic also has the step plate.
Gary what kind of step did you find ?.
Was it the big impressive, front mounted model or the little one mounted on a pedestal near the top/rear of the fender?
JACK,
I JUST SENT PICS TO YOUR EMAIL...I DO NOT KNOW HOW TO GET THEM ON HERE, TRY THO I MAY...IT IS A WIDE STEP WITH A VERTICAL SUPPORT AND BROAD FLANGE....REGARDS, GARY

Jack:
The steps that you require will be the same as those on George Gow's 32 RS Frontenac. I would check with him and take a look at those on his car. The body style on his car is the same as yours.
Gord
Hi Gord I did get a fender step and though it might be nice to also have an original bumper step I can live with a reproduction Ford piece. The Ford step bonus is that it's cheap.
Thanks to everyone who took note and looked.
I have a model 40 coupe restoration project that I am going back together with, this has a standard trunk and i am courious as to what is required to go back together with a rumble setup? Can the same trunkdeck be used? What hardware might be required?
Thanks, Bill

I believe that the only differences are in the hinging and the locking mechanism locations.
I believe that the trunk/RS back are the same size.
The hinges on the RS lid are slots that are on the body with a roller mechanism riding in the slot. Knowing your skills, I am sure you could refabricate something that would work, providing you had some good pictures.
You should have a lot of fun rebuilding that coupe. Not sure, but don't think that you had the rear window that went up and down. That is a super great feature if you can find one.
Hope all is going well with you and Byorg.
The trunk lid is changable to an RS lid. The hinge mechanism would require that you build a few pieces. The latch mechanism can be changed to the top and the layout is stamped in the trunk lid liner metal.
You may be able to get this info from Reg Bent or get a copy made by Louis Quenneville. Both names in the membership roster. My copy isn't available to me just now.
I found one good picture of Tony Berks Model 60 restoration which gives a clear shot of one of the guides and the rumble seat area, I think the guide shares the same wood framing just under the drain gutter...I'm thinking the M-4, the D-40 and the 60 should be the same, I'll just need to get a pattern.
This car also has wire wheels so will need to modify the spare mount as I have no welled fenders or side mount bracket.
Thanks, Bill
