Universal Joints 1926 Touring - How much Play and Solutions

Gentlemen:

I have reassembled my differential with all new bearings and seals.

Now
I am putting back together the driveshift.
It has enclosed Spicer universals.

I think there is toooo much play of universal shaft in sleeves ( ie. 4 per end) and the sleeves have slots on the outer side for holding sleeves onto coupler which fits slides into transmission shift and back end which is bolted to diff. flange.

Questions :
How much play should I allow between seeves and univeral ends ?

And/or where can I purchase new sleeves ?

There should be NO noticeable play in the universal joints. I dissembled about 12-16 old joints before I found two sets that I could use for my '23.
Check with Franz at the Vancouver Durant Star Connection for replacement universal crosses.
By the way, all Star and Durant 1922-1929 use the same universal.

Tx for directing me again Don.
On Franz's website are rebuilt u-joints.
I emailed him.

One Question :

What would be best material to use to put in lips of spicer universal enclosed cups. ?
Waxed lace (i.e. from a shoe lace) ?

Tx again

I used 1/4" water pump packing and a thin paper gasket on the flange. You could also use an o-ring of suitable size. Most anything will stand up to the 600W oil used in the joint.
