Interesting a 617 with spear hood. We've mentioned in Forum before about 614 with straight louvers and assumed it was a dealer thing to please customers who didn't care for the spears. Could this be the reverse of that and a customer wanted spears ?
Terrys site mentions.
The 617 is incorrectly illustrated in the Durant sales brochure A-30-108. It is shown with hood spears. A February 25, 1930 Service bulletin describes the error and announces a replacement brochure A-30-107. This brochure illustrates the 617 with vertical hood louvers.
Ken:
Some people have a very inflated perception of the value of a vehicle in need of restoration. I, like you, would hope that the $15,000. is a misprint. However, as they say, you can always come down in your asking price.

Gordon,
I agree with you on this too. Recently on e-Bay was a very Derelict 29 Chevy truck the seller wanted about $5000 to $6000 for (reserve) based on a phone call from a "collector'. Bidding of several people and watching by almost 40 neeted a final Bid of $510.
Old and even "Rare" does not always translate to High Value, especially if it's in very poor condition!!!
Recently I saw an AD for a very rough early 30's Pierce Arrow Long WB Sedan going for $10,000. Maybe(?)a good value. Especially when restored ones bring 20 to 30 times that amount (or more with complete paperwork).
BUT and a Large BUT, to restore it, you would probably have to put minimum of $250,000 into it and Find or Make many missing/ruined parts. So probably NOT a good deal if he even gave it to you for Free!

Interesting to note, perhaps, Old Auto's carried an item about value of antique cars a year back and featured .. 1932 618 Durant 6 wire wheel sedan fully restored was worth $14,000 today and the same 20 years ago. Just because its a restored car or rare, doesn't make it worth a heck of a lot.
We dump a pile of money in these cars because its our hobby, we enjoy doing it, and its sure more than its worth most times, on resale.
At todays rate that is $ 36,416.21 Canadian .. Even a very rare fully restored with all the bells and whistles, side mounts and rear trunk 1932 618 Durant sedan is worth $14,000 Canadian. That's £7688.
Durant is considered an orphan car, like a lot of makes, and don't command big prices as I said before above your posting.
