Rick has given me a Green light to do these Postings on LOCOMOBILE historic News: Here's Number 1:
When Billy Durant tookover Locomobile in the early 20's they only made one very Exclusive model; the big 142" inch WB, expensive ($7,550 to $11,200) Model 48! It was a special car then when a Ford or Chevy cost $490 dollars. It was called 48 because of the Horsepower figure of the earliest one, created over 10 years earlier still with a big 6 Cyl 524.8 cubic inch "T" head engine. A wonderful "Old Style" unchanged from the Brass era luxury car.
But sales were also Very Low (too Low for Billy Durant or a solid company); 1000 in 1920, 721 in 1921, 221 in 1922, 116 in 1923 and only 230 in 1924. Something had to be done! So until next time in Locomobile News when, "A new LOCOMOBILE model is Developed".
