Marily and I have decided to attend the meet in Texarkan in September after some encouragement from Frank and Katy . My Durant will not be able to attend. Due to health problems and old age it will not be able to travel that far.
I have some questions about the event.
Are non-members invited? We will have 1 other couples with us and possibly two. Are there special room prices available for this event? Can anyone recommend nice places to stay? We are not looking for fancy, but nice, clean and friendly. I know some of these questions may be ansewred in the magazine but I have loaned mine to my brother who enjoys reading them.

Let me see how many of your questions I can answer, and if you have more please ask and someone will respond.

We encourage anyone that would like to attend to do so. When Peg and I hosted the DMAC in 2004, we had several non-members in attendance at the various activities.

Hotel: At some point in time there will be information on the hotel where we will meet and stay. Yes, there is typically a special rate for those that attend, and that information will be included either in the online post, or with the flyer that comes with the Durant Partner. Usually, the hotel choice is not a Grand Hyatt or a Sheraton, but something in the Red Roof Inn, or Holiday Express price range. I have been looking at the various hotels in the Texarkana area and the prices without a conference rate are in the $110 to $120 range. I do not think that the hotel has been chosen as of this dated.

There is also a conference fee, yet to be determined.

Also, for those that are flying to the meeting, there are very few flights into the Texarkana Airport. Let me suggest that those that are arriving by air, look at coming into Shreveport (about 1.5 hours SE of Texarkana) or Little Rock (about 3.5 hours NE of Texarkana) as alternative airports.

This is a good time as any to get started on this so here we go!
Sept 9-13, 2009 (Wed-Sun), DMAC 11th Annual Convention in Texarkana, Ark-Tex.
The host motel will be La Crosse (www.lacrosse-hotel.com), located on I-30 and State Line Avenue on the Arkansas side. Room rate is $92.00 total per night. The hotel has a restaurant (Cajun Harbor) and a bar. It is next door to Denny’s and a short walk to I-Hop.
Excellent secure parking in the back with grass area for parking trucks and trailers, and on site security monitoring.

Several other motels in the immediate vicinity.
Texarkana municipal airport is a feeder line from Dallas.
Amtrak stops downtown at Union Station.
Bus Station next to I-Hop close to hotel.

1- Check in on Wednesday, Sept 9, hospitality room available.
2- Thursday, road trip to Old Washington, Ark. (Arkansas State Historical Park) and capitol of Confederate States of America during the Civil War. Lunch at this site. 30 miles on Arkansas back roads. Group photo in front of Arkansas largest Magnolia tree.
Thurs night- Men’s technical session and tall tales in the hospitality room.
Ladies get-together on the Terrace at the hotel. Agenda to be revealed at a later date.
3- Friday, road trip to Murfreesboro, Ark., Only diamond mine open to public and you keep what ya find. Also, archeological site of the Ca-Do-Ha Indians. Free area to look for arrow heads and keep what ya find.
Friday night- business meeting at the Tex-Ark Antique Auto Museum.
4- Saturday-swap meet at Don Shilling’s home/shop/museum/junk pile. Plenty of room and can set up inside in case of rain.
Group photo in front of the Texarkana Post Office/Courthouse. Half of the group will be in Texas and the other half in Arkansas.
Saturday night- Banquet at Tex-Ark Museum.
5- Sunday- Good bys and departures.

Convention costs are being determined at this time. I’ll try to make it as easy as possible on your pocketbook as I can!!

Marilyn and I will attend with 2 other persons, possibly four. We will not have a car nor items for the swap meet. My apologies to Kathy Witkowski for misspelling her name in my original message.

Sonia & myself with James and aleata Miller will be taking the train. It will take 2 1/2 days. As you all know, the train is never late. We will leave 2 days earlier. Getting excited all ready. I see that e-bay is making all its sellers except pay-pal only for payment.
