In the interest of keeping to stock or original as best I can, I am looking for the original oil level indicator for a w-4 motor in my 23 Star.
The motor has the indicator marks on the block but my motor now has a dip stick which is not accurate, although I could mark it to be accurate by marking the 3 quart and 4 quark levels.
Inside the oil pan there is a tube connected to the oil indicator hole.
If anbody has the original oil indicator parts laying around I would be happy to hear from you.
Thanks,
Tony

Hello Tony,
The original is a piece of wire with a cork attached to it.
To make the cork last it was covered with shellac.
The basic idea was having a floating level indicator.
Look for the wire in your oil pan !

I am currently rebuilding my W5 and have taken a picture of my oil indicator components.
The cork fell apart but it was 1/2 diameter and 1 1/2 inches long.
The wire went right through cork to the bottom of it, i.e. 1 1/2 of wire is used up by the cork.

I have a spare tube and wire on the parts shelf. The tube has rust issues but is solid. You are welcome to it, just send me an address and reimburse me for the postage. Be glad to help get you on the road again
Gary
