Chrysler/Audi/VW Mirror tool

Is there a special tool for this type of mirror that does not mar the surface of the stem? Please don\'t tell me to wrap a rag around a pair of pliers or to use sof tjaw pliers like the plumbers use. It appears that the mirror stem is made to use a specific tool on it at the factory
