West End star Darren Day goes bankrupt

LONDON, Oct. 13 (UPI) --

London's West End musical star Darren Day has gone bankrupt, largely because of a cocaine addiction, the Daily Mail reported.

Two years ago, Day was making close to a million pounds a year as the star of musicals such as "Summer Holiday," "Grease" and "Carousel." His roles in these musicals led to a record deal, a naked cover shoot for Cosmopolitan and stints hosting various game shows.

Day's roller coaster career, however, has been rife with gossip, sex and drugs, the Daily Mail said.

The report said his love life often made headlines and he eventually earned the label "Britain's Number One Love Rat."

But it was drugs, the Mail reported, that led to Day's financial ruin. After being found dozing in a parked car, Day, 37, admitted that his cocaine addiction had left him 350,000 pounds ($650,000) in debt. Day has reportedly racked up so much debt that his 800,000-pound ($1,484,000) home in rural Hertfordshire had to be sold, and he now lives in a rented apartment in Yorkshire, where Day's sixth fiancee has just had their baby.

"It's my life," Day told the newspaper. "I don't want to talk about it. What do you want me to say?"
