I clicked on 'publish site" while editing my page. Now my index page is automatically changed. Please inform How may I get back my original front page.

The only place that a "publish website" link exists is in the Website Wizard. Were you trying to create a Website Wizard site, or were you editing your pages from the Visual/Text editors? If your not designing a Wizard site, you should not be in the Wizard.
The "publish website" link in the Wizard is strictly for Wizard sites. It doesn't ask "are you sure", but there are enough steps getting there, so once it's done, it's done. There is no "undo". If you don't have a copy of your old "index.html" file, on-line or locally, you have to re-generate it from scratch.
