Important Changes Regarding FTP

By default Bravenet is now using SFTP (Secure File Transmission
Protocol) rather then FTP; now referred to as legacy FTP. As a result
you will notice everywhere that used to say FTP now says SFTP - don't
panic, this just means your website and files are more secure.

All previous accounts work with both SFTP and legacy FTP -- you don't
_need_ to do anything. By default all newly created accounts are SFTP
only but legacy FTP can be enabled by clicking 'edit' next to the SFTP
account name and checking 'enable legacy FTP' - you can also disable
legacy FTP by unchecking the box.

Most FTP clients allow for SFTP - it is usually just a box you check off
while connecting. We strongly urge all our members to use SFTP whenever
possible for secure transmission of your information. You would only
have to enable legacy FTP if you are using an older unsupported client
such as FrontPage 2003.

Another important thing we wanted to mention is our old Java FTP Applet
has been changed to a newer, faster, better, more secure one. A dialogue
may appear when you connect to the SFTP Java Applet, this is totally
normal and you will need to accept it in order to continue on.

There will be more information on these changes in an upcoming Bravenet
newsletter, but for now if you have any questions or concerns please
check our wiki or open a support ticket.

Thanks,
The Bravenet Team
