I have a friend who just signed up for free hosting and she only got 5MB space while others who signed up for free space have much more. Did something change?

Bravenet made the change to 5 MBytes several months ago. But you are not alone. All Bravenet free site users were demoted to 5 MBytes. They had a grace period where they allowed users to trim their sites down to the 5 MBytes. But after the cutoff date, sites were rended inaccessible, until they reduced their size. If you know other free site users, with more that 5 MBytes, they are either misinformed, or not with Bravenet.
