Another Round of Pilkington Service Center Closings To Be Announced
Pilkington in process of selling down as much inventory as possible at the next group of warehouses to close prior to announcement. Little Rock, Albequerque, Amarillo, San Diego, & Pittsburgh going next.
Re: Another Round of Pilkington Service Center Closings To Be Announced
Maybe....but they have a lot of overlap. Typically where there is a Pilk warehouse there is a PGW one. Also in several markets, like Memphis, the PGW operation was moved inside of the LKQ warehouse. Also, Pilk literally does not own a single warehouse....they rent them all. Not much in the way of assets to sell and brand goodwill has dropped massively.
Re: Another Round of Pilkington Service Center Closings To Be Announced
PGW already has the majority market share across the US. It’s a better fit for FYG . Plus as mentioned there is too much overlap between Pilk and PGW....
Re: Another Round of Pilkington Service Center Closings To Be Announced
Do you think that maybe... just maybe (hoping!) that with these cutbacks in service centers, that possibly there is going to be a new, much needed, focus on product quality and better handling of glass delivery?
Re: Another Round of Pilkington Service Center Closings To Be Announced
I don't think so. Their plan is to exit the wholesale business completely and return to being just a truckload company. They don't own a single wholesale warehouse....lease only. The closures have been staggered to time with end of leases. When a lease gets within a year of expiring, the plan is to sell off as much product as possible without replenishing. They don't want to pay to transfer product back to Columbus or Phoenix DC's. What a shame for this once great company. There are 4 or 5 people who are responsbile for running this company into the ground.
