DOT Issues Nine New Numbers to Glass Companies

Let's see--- 9 new numbers. Five were issued to companies in China, two to companies in South America, one to a company in Germany, and one actually went to a company here in America.

Profits from the Fuyao operations in Ohio are going to China. Profits from Safelite in Ohio first pass through their parent Belron in the UK and then on to Belron's parent D'leteren in Belgium. And jolly old Pilkington is owned by the Japanese.

All this makes me proud to be an American glassman who has Democrats that take care of me. That Trump is a crazy wild man you know.

Carlos,

Unlike most of us, you joined us voluntarily.

Welcome to the madhouse!

Re: DOT Issues Nine New Numbers to Glass Companies

I appreciate your kind welcome, IRA, but I suspect you missed the absolute sarcasm of the last paragraph, which indeed was the whole point of my post.

Re: DOT Issues Nine New Numbers to Glass Companies

Suspicion denied. I fully realized you point....and you are right!

There was a time when we had "short run" windshield plants in the U.S.
(PPG works 25, Viracon, Buchmin Industries, WIN etc,) but they are all gone.

Now, when part numbers run out, such as DW838 or DW846, there is no-one in the U.S. to manufacture them at a reasonable price, and if the people in Peru or China don't have the molds for them, the possible volume is not enough to warrant the cost of making a mold.
