06' CADI SRX ROOF MOLDING.....

We've installed two of these now, customer pay on first one, insurance paid on the second, now customer is back with another broken one wondering why. It is approximately 3ft long, 3-5 inches wide, runs in between sunroof, and roof rail. It has a half inch bead of urethane around the perimeter of the molding, nothing special, but it is cracking and not just one stress crack, but multiple cracks all in one area. Can't say why though. Just wondering if anyone else has installed any of these, and if so if they had heard of any issues with these. We know that there are tons of issues with the sunroof, but there doesn't seem to be enough play in it to have bounced over and cracked the molding.

Thanks for any info.

Re: 06' CADI SRX ROOF MOLDING.....

Answered myself the other day when the vehicle came back in and after doing further research. Seems that back in the day, when it came in the first time, I felt urethane would be an easier and quicker way to replace this molding, turns out it was on originally with two sided tape, and that I'm assuming that the two sided tape allows for the flex that differing temps will apply to the molding, whereas urethane will not. Whoops, expensive mistake. It had been so long I didn't remember taking it off and what held it on originally, but now that I know I can definitely see myself thinking that urethane would have been easier, and quicker. Plus allow for some fine tuning after placing it in place. Oh how wrong I was.

Anyway, to sum up, the roof molding next to sunroof on a Caddy SRX should not be reinstalled with urethane, use two-sided tape.

Have a nice day.
