Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

i am suprised no one has mentioned sunroof assemblies on newer kia, hyundai, and vw's. those are time consuming. just did a veloster at a dealer and boy was it fun. the tech gave a run down of the dealer repair manual. it stated that once the sunroof assembly was removed it was likely to have the roof repainted due to the possible paint damage. go figure, once to gut the interior, remove the sunrrof assembly then to paint. wow.
i was lucky and only had to replace the assembly, the tech had removed all inerior and was reqired to re install.

another one i got stuck with( seems like my boss loks to give me these jobs)was a newer vw beetle sunroof assembly tha was a dealer warranty. i asked for the repair manual and according to the dealer there was not one yet( when these cars fisrt came out) and i was to document everything i did and take pictures. they wanted a step by step for future reference. this one was fun. had to remove w/s, interior, and hatch. then have fun with removal of sunroof asembly.

in reality no job is to difficult. one of the biggest problems we have in our industry is there are no shop type manuals that with instructions on how each indivucal car is done. this would help as refreshers or for pointers. we are fortunate because we service the majority of new car dealers and we can get service bullitins for help.

If your sooooo skilled. Why are you running from a Fw414 ????? Can't put a wide chrome T-109 molding on it and stuff it in????

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

The first fw 414 I did sucked about 1988, it looked like a gasket set but I dam sure could not push it out and what a mess it was installing the new one but it got done and I have done several since they aren't to bad just use allot of tape and take your time...The worst one I came across was the Fiat 4 door with the chrome glued in with poly sulfied and then glued to the glass then filled with the same material and on the pinchweld

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

Anything with sgc logo. Never got the bends correct. Usually resealed twice, mldg glued down, headliner glued to top edge of glass.done too many of these in my day.

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

I think my votes go to Mid 80s Audi 5000. Fiat X 1/9s. Anything Ferrari that had urethane-on moldings. The Nissan NV van is just a royal pain due to its size and encapsulation or moldings as are Freightliners. I personally am not a fan of using an Extractor on roofline or post beads.
Tough removals usually occur when design precedes the tools. The raw edge glasses like a VW Eos become much easier with a wire removal system than trying to use a combination of every other older removal tools that a tech had with him.

Ford made it hard in the 80's when it decided to go thin with urethane on Escorts or double dashboard beads on the early Taurus. Equalizer made its mark in tools during this time. The cold knife blades became thinner, sharper and multi-shaped as need adapted.
