Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

keith elder
who manufacture's pro-grip primerless urethane? where can i get technical data on that urethane, besides the two sentences that are on the tube. i want the drive time and cure time for 0 degree's up to 95 degree installation,, thanks

ProGrip is Private label Titan P2G+ from what I was told

Try this link http://usa.sika.com/en/solutions_products/01/01a001/01a001sa01/01a001sa01100/01a001sa01103.html

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

P2G+, I don't think so; Sika Basic, that's the story I have heard. If this is correct, the SDAT has a range for dual airbags of 10 to 18 hours.

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

Run a bead of Pro Grip and do the same with the P2G..not the P2G+..and you will see both are not the best out there in the market for low priced product..be careful..especially with the drive away times and the way it sets up....very soft...don't confuse this with the P2G+-that is a good product with good drive away times..if that is what your looking for and relatively at the low price in the urethane pricing range..

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

Service Autoglass sell pro grip, it's their brand

Yes.... We know its their brand... But they don't make it. just their label on the tube. Service doesn't manufacturer urethane..Duh !!!!

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

Besides P2G+ what is the lowest priced urethane that has decent quality. Sometimes we use Titan for mirrors or touchups but I moved and am wondering what to use to save some money. Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Sven

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

Define decent quality… SDAT?

cheapo
Buy cheap, sell cheaper, crap from crap is still crap. GO FOR IT. I want the cheapest garbage so I can install 99.00 w/s's I am the CHEAPEST EVER, are you proud of me? MR.CHEAPO

REALLY ???.... Who the F--K does $99.00 windshields ????!!!! They should be shot and boiled in Camel oil......

I agree XS the 99 dollar guys are insane.

P2G & P2G+ as stated are not the same.

What is more disturbing to me is the amount of people using 828 and 838 (838 is the sausage version as I understand) its CHEAP like THREE FIVE a case for tubes if you use them, but its cure time is insane.

I use to use 418HV and thought it was amazing, but over the years as I understand the 418HV 20 years ago and the product now is not even near what it was because of the Primer less component of the urethane...

I had a lady wreck a car less than 1 hour after installing a windshield with 418HV, luckily she did not pop her air bags. but it did break the seal.... When I found out that out, I went out and switched to whatever it was at the time Essex had it was these HUGE sausage tubes, I am not sure if it was express at that time or what. I can spend $$ more a job to sleep at night, my lively hood , and peoples lives are worth the extra money.

It is so irresponsible for someone to 828 a car and not give anyone, any sort of reasonable expectation on when they can actually safely drive a vehicle.

We all point our guns at Safelite, but at the end of the day they are using quality Glue, a quality that most people will not give there customers....

And do not even get me started on people that do not use primer :( makes me sick how many people just simply do not care about anyone but themselves.

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

It is P2G - look at the TDS, if you can get a hold of it.

Pro Grip like P2G, is primerless to glass and has the same high performance 8 Hour Safe Drive Time, at 70. 10 Hour Safe Drive Time at 40.
And with the "Your guess is a good as mine, Safe Drive Time" under 40.
625 PSI tensile, 325 lbs Lap Shear 40 minute tack free.

P2G+ has a 3 Hour Safe Drive Time at 70 not 8 Hours (so P2G+ is out).

Basic needs Activator on glass and is 10 hour safe drive, at 70, not 8 Hours (so Basic is out).
Not recommended at 40. 14-18 hours at 50.

Lets look at ASAP+, which is what Safelite uses. 1 Hour safe drive all Temps.
950 PSI tensile, 750 PSI Lap Shear, 12 minute tack free.

Man, both P2G and Pro Grip should make you and your customer feel warm and fuzzy, compared to what Safelite uses.

Now here is a thought, just makin' this up.

Safelite knows who buys this stuff, as well who uses it and who bills insurance work through them. They can then have the insurance company / Safelite check with the car owner to see how long they were told, NOT to drive the car, based on the temperature, when the install was completed.
Record the conversation/s and play them for the insurance company.
How many would say that they were NEVER told to let the car sit for 8 hours or so. How long should they tell them not to drive at, say, 10 degrees??
Interesting sales pitch, if I worked for Safelite, I surely would try it.
Really makes Safelite look warm and fuzzy to the insurance company, doesn't it?

Like I said, just a thought, just makin' it up.
Ooops...

Sika

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

Ever tried Dinol ? Great product, reasonably priced. They have 30 minute, 1 hour and 3 hour. I use for my own installations and also wholesale it. Switched from ASAP and have never looked back.

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

I strongly disagree Dinotrol can not hold a candle to ASAP. Nothing Sika makes can even come close. Also with Dinotrol you have to prime the windshield with black primer... At least with ASAP your have the nice clear prep to the windshield. With that being said its not a slam on Dino , its just the facts.

I believe those drive times are for cars that have no air bags.....

ASAP+ has the ability to release a vehicle with dual air bags in about 45 minutes..

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

You both need schooled on your knowledge of Dinol products.

You believe WRONG. They are WITH airbags.
Dinitrol DOES NOT promote safe drive times WITHOUT air bags....
ASAP+ is 45 minutes, less than 40 degrees, 1 hour above 40 degrees.

****ter Proof where do you buy this? and who really makes it , no one knows!

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

Keith, if you want to stay P2g, stay with the good stuff. Either Dow or Sika. As for Dinol, I've been using their 9000 in the sausage pack for about a month and a half since I left the big franchise (best move I ever made besides leaving SL), and the black primer is just like the stuff that Dow is using on their BetaSeal products, green cap and all. Dinol seems to be pretty good stuff. I like it.

Looks like they did another switcheroo with the Pro Grip.
Just saw the new revised tube today, no more primerless, it has activator pads in the box and is 24 in the box instead of 12.
It says use above 55 degrees on the tube. Basic?? or 220+??
Ooops...

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

These threads just amaze me. Techs looking for the cheapest crap so they can save 2 bucks and install for non-profit. Just ridiculous. I have been installing for over 25 years and NEVER have I looked to cut corners on cheaper materials. I still go with top of the line essex, or sika. both are worth it.

I don't try to cut a few bucks so I can justify selling cheaper to the end customer.

weekly I see Dumb stick installs that cut corners and installed with the cheapest crap just to save 3-4 bucks. All this crap about primerless urethane is just flat out a JOKE! no such thing for installing glass, maybe to thane down a few moldings but not to set w/s's. when will the garbage end?

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

ya horrible know body cares about standards. We use the highest quality urethane (Beta-Seal Express) by DOW. 1 hour safe drive away time. We never have any issues and we know our customers are safe. We spend over $14 a sausage tube that gets us about 1.33 installs. So it costs a lot un like that titan crap or ****ty $3 urethanes. The windshield is the 2nd most important saftey part of your vehicle. Take the time and do the job right or don't do it at all your just making more work for the real pros. I clean up/fix other shops cheap uneducated installs everyday.

Take a look at this video if your still in the dark about windshield safety.

Re: pro-grip primerless urethane

I'm in Raleigh. Pilkington used to sell Dinotrol. Not sure if they still do or if they're pushing the OETech stuff.
