If your sooooo skilled. Why are you running from a Fw414 ????? Can't put a wide chrome T-109 molding on it and stuff it in????

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

The first fw 414 I did sucked about 1988, it looked like a gasket set but I dam sure could not push it out and what a mess it was installing the new one but it got done and I have done several since they aren't to bad just use allot of tape and take your time...The worst one I came across was the Fiat 4 door with the chrome glued in with poly sulfied and then glued to the glass then filled with the same material and on the pinchweld

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

Larry J.B. are Jamie's initials. ( the author of the article)

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

DW820 or DW685 with new aftermarket rubber and aftermarket chrome moldings
1966 T-Bird
1984-88 T-bird with factory windshield
DW939GTN Ford Rangers-experimental urethane and slammed to the pinchweld
1998-2000 Superdutys-factory slammed with bad bend/corners were almost impossible

Just warning all you lickers out there. Fw 414 install is cake if you know what you are doing. Never heard of chrome T-109, you still smoking that stuff?

Well don't be selfish, Share !!!! You showed us how to reverse stuff a vette....
Don't be like that....Unless you really don't have that "Skill" you claim !!!!

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

Anything with sgc logo. Never got the bends correct. Usually resealed twice, mldg glued down, headliner glued to top edge of glass.done too many of these in my day.

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

I think my votes go to Mid 80s Audi 5000. Fiat X 1/9s. Anything Ferrari that had urethane-on moldings. The Nissan NV van is just a royal pain due to its size and encapsulation or moldings as are Freightliners. I personally am not a fan of using an Extractor on roofline or post beads.
Tough removals usually occur when design precedes the tools. The raw edge glasses like a VW Eos become much easier with a wire removal system than trying to use a combination of every other older removal tools that a tech had with him.

Ford made it hard in the 80's when it decided to go thin with urethane on Escorts or double dashboard beads on the early Taurus. Equalizer made its mark in tools during this time. The cold knife blades became thinner, sharper and multi-shaped as need adapted.

I find it interesting how 90% of the criticism I receive is from uneducated comments. Did you read the article or just look at the pictures? The first thing on the article clearly states this is based on NAGS labor hours and not my personal opinion.

So, you read the intro and still dont understand what the article is about? Start at 10 and count down to 1, each number will represent a larger amount of time than the preceding one as the number decreases based on NAGS data until you reach #1. Not really a lot of opinion there unless you are diffusing the fact that you make another slam of someone in the industry without knowing what you are talking about.

LOL ok JB take the little blue pill & breathe. You can't really pen an article about the 10 toughest jobs to do because there are too many variables. Some of the simplest jobs can turn into a huge nightmare. Some of the jobs on the list aren't that hard. Probably an unrealistic article to try and put to paper. You keep harping on the fact "I don't know what I'm talking about" that's as funny as the article itself.

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

SGlass, I will no longer comment about this article with you as you dont seem to be able to comprehend this article was clearly BASED ON NAGS LABOR TIMES. If you still need help call me, I will read it to you out loud and if you have any questions I will be glad to help.

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

Then that was a STUPID name for an article. Just saying, I think the news paper and the news use "Sensationalism" also. That's why you print stuff and I install it.

Why did you have a "Vote" on the top 10 Toughest installs if it had nothing to do with the real world and just Nags labor.

You should have called the Article Top 10 Highest Nags labor jobs. I do not know you so I am not going to go where I would normally go, hell you might be a good guy and just a terrible writer... Not sure.. I just call it like I see it unfortunately that's how I am.

I guess if the old IGA President did not punch me in the face after what I continuously said about him, I am sure we will be good if I ever catch you at a show lurking around... :)

Just be like Obama and say if you like your AGRR Magazine you can keep it.

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

Larry, I would be careful who you threat. He is like 6'5 240 and trained with the Shaolin Monks when he lived in China. Also a really nice guy until you push the wrong button. But it's cool, he will never know who you are posting on here is so "anonymous" lol

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

Perhaps next time Larry I will use stick figures and Crayons so you can better understand the subject matter. We do not need "sensationalism" to sell magazines, our subscription is free of charge. The very first thing said before the article starts is this is based on NAGS labor. I then asked for technicians to give their input as to what they thought were time consuming/tough installs. As for "catching me lurking around a show", that should not be hard to do because I work at them. Calling someone "stupid" on a forum where you hide your real name? What words will you chose when you approach me in public? Probably not the ones you chose here behind you computer.

Smarter than most, appreciate the support but leave my personal information off of the forum.

No, really, thank you agrr what ever. So glad I will not show up at the dog and pony shows, I would have to smack too many dip sticks into submission. Pathetic. a....... holes!

Re: Top 10 toughest installs really???

i am suprised no one has mentioned sunroof assemblies on newer kia, hyundai, and vw's. those are time consuming. just did a veloster at a dealer and boy was it fun. the tech gave a run down of the dealer repair manual. it stated that once the sunroof assembly was removed it was likely to have the roof repainted due to the possible paint damage. go figure, once to gut the interior, remove the sunrrof assembly then to paint. wow.
i was lucky and only had to replace the assembly, the tech had removed all inerior and was reqired to re install.

another one i got stuck with( seems like my boss loks to give me these jobs)was a newer vw beetle sunroof assembly tha was a dealer warranty. i asked for the repair manual and according to the dealer there was not one yet( when these cars fisrt came out) and i was to document everything i did and take pictures. they wanted a step by step for future reference. this one was fun. had to remove w/s, interior, and hatch. then have fun with removal of sunroof asembly.

in reality no job is to difficult. one of the biggest problems we have in our industry is there are no shop type manuals that with instructions on how each indivucal car is done. this would help as refreshers or for pointers. we are fortunate because we service the majority of new car dealers and we can get service bullitins for help.
