In 1986 you needed a new gasket better than 50% of the time. All of those Japanese cars of that era generally needed new gaskets the first time around. The gasket was glued on so good that it ripped taking the original glass out. Shield FW417 Gasket WCR417

If you knew what you were doing you could use the original gasket and the original chrome and just replace the glass. But you had to know how to do this. Most didn't. OOOOPPPPS
