Does anyone know where to find laws that are important to glass shops. I have heard of some odd "laws" that sound like they may be true and have even come up with some of my own over the years. I'd like top find the truth. As an example: I have been told it is illegal to install ds mirror in a rear veiw mirror frame. In the past I have told costumers that we cannot install lexan as door glass because you cannot get out in an accident. Don't know if it true but it sounded good and it stuck.
I think what you are talking about with the mirrors relates to FMVSS 111. If the passenger side mirror is convex, 111 says you cannot change it to a flat mirror as that would change the field of view as designed by the mfg and required by the law.
If my previous post is not enough help just go to www.glasslinks.com
and click the SEARCH button and type in FMVSS. There are several links to good information.
