mirror bracket FW686

Has anyone found a problem with the windshield mirror bracket on the BMW FW686 LAMISHIELD DOT 593. The Mirror came off with the bracket and a one inch piece of glass. The customer said he did not apply any excessive force. The customer feels the glass is flawed. Just thought I would ask you guys.

Re: mirror bracket FW686

glue it back on

Re: mirror bracket FW686

problem is they're using mirror bracket glue instead of urethene or epoxy. black patch where bracket goes heats different then metal bracket, and since there is no allowance for expanion with the glue, glass breaks. you also see this alot with safelite glass.

Re: mirror bracket FW686

Yup, we have been seeing this problem way too often. We try to check them before install, but sometimes miss it. If there is a frit and it is on with regular mirror glue, it runs a high risk of breaking off like happened to your customer.
Little bit of heat and they come right off. We have been using a 2 part epoxy from Lowes for about 1 1/2 years now with 100% success.

Re: Re: mirror bracket FW686

We take apair of 10 in vise grips attach to bracket.Take rag cig. lighter hold heat, count to 10.Pull heat off for 5 then do again, after 4 or 5 times even epoxy brackets come off with no break.Agree if SGC wont even try.
