CAC Calls on Government to "Stand Up" for Consumers

FREDERICTON, April 11 /CNW/ Responding to the news that insurance companies made record profits in 2005 The Consumers' Association of Canada has called on the Provincial government to "Stand Up" for New Brunswickers.
"This profit is coming off the backs of consumers," says Bruce Cran, President of the Consumers' Association of Canada. Recently, the New Brunswick Insurance Board informed the public that the installation of the $2,500 cap on auto injuries has reduced claims by 40%. Says Cran, "Unfortunately, it is the Ontario Insurance Companies that benefit from such a restriction, not the people of New Brunswick, and certainly not the victims of car crashes."
Currently, New Brunswickers are offered the choice of two Auto Insurance Products. The first is a no-frills no-fault with a maximum medical/ rehabilitation of $25,000 and the second is a standard no-fault with a maximum medical/rehabilitation of $50,000. Concerned with value proposition that is offered Cran explains, "The problem is consumers here don't get the same benefits as consumers in other Canadian provinces. For example, neither option compares with the B.C. basic auto insurance policy that includes no-fault with a basic medical/rehabilitation of $150,000."
The governments latest comments appear to support the insurance policy reforms reducing benefits without corresponding reductions in premiums.
Confused by the governments response to the enormous profits of the insurance companies Cran asked the question, "Why aren't the New Brunswick Insurance
Board and the Lord Government advocating a better deal for New Brunswickers?"

Re: CAC Calls on Government to "Stand Up" for Consumers

At least some one in Canada was the guts to stand up to big ins co's! With the all time record profits of all the major ins co's why is no one in the U.S. speaking out? Most people or consumers I talk to believe if we all would just take the premiums we pay out, monthly, quarterly, semi annually, whatever, and put it in decent, interest bearing account we would have no need for social security, we would all have a real nice retirement program of our own! Even with hurricanes, tornado's, floods, ect, how is it ins co's have the largest profit margins in history??? yea we know, charge more, pay out less and less, that way thier ceo's can live the really good life!

Re: CAC Calls on Government to "Stand Up" for Consumers

Contact your governors, senators and congressmen months before re-elections to explain your plight. Form a grass roots telephone network force with other glass companies in your counties and states to ask the congressmen or senators for their support. Let them know if they help you stand up for your cause you will give them your support. Other wise you will vote them out of office and find some one who will. Unless the elected officials realize their constituents are having issues they don't know about it they won't help you.
Your cause should n to be stated as an individual issue, but for the good of the whole.
In other words you can't say, "I'm not making enough money help me". It has got to be about unfair business or illegal practices. The insurance lobbyists know how to go to the fence without crossing. They are paid intimidators.

Form or join a state association there are many around the country. There is power in numbers.

Take the bull by the horns and DANCE.
Just my 2 cents.
