rage replied to some guy on Facebook saying this:
Hey! Rage is put together week on week by a super small number of core staff and we've been slugging our guts out, working from home on slow connections and remote servers, and adjusting to pandemic life. It's been a time! Like most people, we're absolutely spent and need a short break over Xmas and New Year's which is why we've moved retro month to Feb. We know you're going to love it just as much in Feb as you have in Jan!
This feels like the end of an era.
As some posters have pointed out there's often 1 less week in February and competition from the hottest 100.
Evicting retro month from January might be an underhand way to break the spell of tradition which dates back to the early 90s. It makes it easier to have any annual time slot 'retro month' or maybe 'retro week' or maybe a small special or maybe none at all.
It certainly sounds like the time worn tradition of having the axe fall by degrees...
This really sucks :rage:
Nothing all year would be as easy to put together as Retro Month.
Pick 5 Countdowns. 5 things. That's it. That's your week's work done.
Anyway, it is what it is. I'm not happy, but I can't deny people a break after this ******** of a year.
I have faith that things will be back to normal in 2022. (There are 5 Saturdays in Jan 2022 btw, so they will have a chance at redemption)
retro month isn't the same if it's not in January. It's an institution! Plus, January is a time when a lot of people are off work (or school, if you're a younger retro fan) - so have more time to relax and recover from sitting up all night on Saturday.
Surely rage have access to a list of unrepeated Countdowns. All they needed to do was pick 20 (about their average for a 5-weekend month) and let the archive/digitisation/rights clearance folk do their work. It could have been done in March.
The main reason retro month (or as I like to call it Countdown) was in January because the music industry was in Hiatus with no new record releases, nothing new so we went retro. Come February too many factors will effect retro month and I guess we'll get a pretty poor 4 weeks.
Even The Rock Arena & Recovery diehards, sure we have to have Some Compensation????
Maybe the Abbo's wanted the month changed from January to February? Christmas is going to be in November this year.
