There's also the Saturday morning preview hour from 10, but the playlist for that isn't up yet.

Ha ha! I saw that she/they were originally scheduled. Yeah, d a m n.

Re: Wa Wa Nee tribute this Saturday night on rage

I have been asking rage to play Gone from BEATBOX and One And One video for yeaaaaaaaars on their Wild Card Specials and they deliver them now that Paul has died. It always takes death for things to be played, arghhhhhh.

Very glad rage are doing a Wa Wa Nee special though xoxoxo

It says Countdown performances, so that means rage don't have videos to One And One and I Could Make You Love Me and probably I Want You and Can't Control Myself.

I know that Gone will come from Beatbox which was Wa Wa Nee's first TV appearance which I have wanted for yeaaaaaaaaaars. And Can't Control Myself may come from The Factory if rage don't have the video where Paul wear's a Yellow Jacket and I Want You probably from Countdown Revolution at The Metro

rage did play a 1987 Episode with One And One video a few years ago which I was delighted to finally get the video for!

I was so glad to see Wa Wa Nee with Paul and Steve, Paul's brother support Pseudo Echo about 5 years ago and they did all their singles live and as support to Culture Club with many other OZ bands in December 2016 with Steve Williams on guitar next to Paul, that was gREAAAT! As Steve and Paul didn't talk for a long time and when I saw them on stage together I was thrilled!

I also so Wa Wa Nee in 1988 as support to Bros and I told Paul that Wa Wa Nee blew Bros off the stage, they were phenomenal ***

My sister and I had a half an hour chat with Paul 2 years ago at the Casino after the 80s Package tour and it was so fabulous and we got to talk proper Wa Wa Nee music and Music in general.

Re: Wa Wa Nee tribute this Saturday night on rage

Jason, I'm thinking (hoping) that any Countdown performances might be shown in the 10-11am slot Saturday morning. The Saturday morning playlist seems to have gone AWOL though this week, so who knows what will air then. This slot is repeated on ABC ME on Thursday night.

And yes, it's a shame that rage don't play more of this sort of thing until an artist dies. Still, I'm pleased they're doing a tribute at all beyond just 'Stimulation'. It's great that they've at least got all of the Wa Wa Nee videos scheduled, but there were 2 different 'So Good' videos (7" and 12") - maybe one will air Saturday morning, and the 'rude' version Saturday night? There were also 2 different 'Sugar Free' videos, though one was for the US market which rage probably don't have.

Re: Wa Wa Nee tribute this Saturday night on rage

I was pretty sure Rage played One and One a couple of years ago, as I have the whole video, mind you it is clean as well with no Rage or titles. I am pretty sure I got it from Rage though? I hope I Could Make You Love Me is a better version than what is on a DVD at present. But yes, at least they have taken the time to actually see what they have available and play them all.

Re: Wa Wa Nee tribute this Saturday night on rage

I'm not sure if "So Good" was suitable viewing for 10am Saturday morning on ABC ... hmmmm. Do you think the staff fully review the film clips before they go to air?

'Can't Control Myself' was the version that also had some boob shots in it. Yeah, it looks like no-one at rage actually watches the clips. Funny. Though I swear I caught that version of 'So Good' when it was in the top 50, at least once, though it was when it was #49 and aired before 6am.

For reasons unknown, they enlarged/stretched/zoomed in on the Countdown performance of 'I Could Make You Love Me', and it crossed the watermark. 'I Want You' and 'So Good' also looked like they may have extended slightly beyond the 4:3 area of the screen. 'Can't Control Myself' was blown up to 16:9 and with a PG watermark over part of the intro, which I assume will also be there on the otherwise watermark-free ABC ME repeat on Thursday night.

If the actual video for 'I Could Make You Love Me' airs tonight, it's almost certain that it will be blown up to 16:9, as the video is letterboxed throughout, in which case it will have a watermark over part of it. D a m n.

Re: Wa Wa Nee tribute this Saturday night on rage

As I suspected, 'I Could Make You Love Me' and 'One and One (Ain't I Good Enough)' were blown up to 16:9. 'Gone' was also enlarged, touching the watermark.

'Sugar Free' was mercifully not enlarged.

Re: Wa Wa Nee tribute this Saturday night on rage

Did anyone else get a slight pixelation at the start of Sugarfree and Gone?

Re: Wa Wa Nee tribute this Saturday night on rage

Didn't notice any on the Perth broadcast. Just an annoying amount of ABC logo intrusion into the horizontally-stretched frame on Gone :/

Yikes, and Can't Control Myself was even worse

Yet they left So Good unobstructed.

Re: Wa Wa Nee tribute this Saturday night on rage

I didn't get any pixellation, thankfully.

It's a shame that 'Sugar Free' and (probably, I haven't yet compared with my 16:9 recording yet) 'So Good' were the only 2 'new' clips shown that were not blown up or stretched/zoomed in on. B l o o d y rage.

Michael asked me earlier, so posting it here for anyone else wondering... but the Saturday night segment should be repeated on ABC on Wednesday morning, starting at 2:02am going by the current TV guide online. There may be some clips dropped from it, though, as the show only runs for 90 mins vs. the 2 hours or so of tributes shown last night.

Re: Wa Wa Nee tribute this Saturday night on rage

The 12" version of So Good was slightly different than the one i recorded off MTV many years ago. Trust me i watched it a couple of times. There was also an alternative version to Stimulation that wasnt played but i saw on AMV (remember that) which was very similar to the other Sugar Free video.

Re: Wa Wa Nee tribute this Saturday night on rage

Sorry for the late reply here, but I enjoyed the Wa Wa Nee special on Rage. IMO the audio version of "Gone" on Beatbox (as the Triple J Band of the week!) is better than the album version and also the 12" version from Ultamixes. The Beatbox version doesn't appear to be live audio, it looks mimed, however it is definitely a more stripped down version than the two aforementioned. The clip is quite funny too, just the look on their faces cracks me up, they didn't take it too seriously & that's one of those songs that you can't get out of your head!

And - how pretty was Elizabeth Lord back in the day? Particularly in "I Could Make You Love Me". Plus a great backing vocalist too.

So sad Paul passing away from cancer, such a great guy. Would have been sad for his family & friends. Not sure if he had kids, but I think I have read somewhere that he has. It would have been devastating for them to deal with.

If my memory of the facebook post I saw a couple of years ago that mentioned his illness is correct, there was mention of his children.
