Don't mean to sound nieve, but I don't get what word you are referring to in the run sheets "****ed" ??

Well I typed in the actual word but this forum software changed it to ****

Dee Ay Em En.

Funny that that gets censored!

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

WOW! WOW! WOW!, I'm just lost for words, this is just an AMAZING line up.

Thankfully I now have a friend who lives in site of the Wollongong transmitters, so he'll be doing all the taping from now on. I live in an apartment block south of Sydney with very touch and go reception. Looking forward to getting these episodes glitch and pixelation free. :)

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

Great stuff! A real treat not knowing the content of those two episodes until their screening tomorrow night. A little bit disappointed that i have the 24/2/80 episode on time code (as some here also do) and it's the first one tomorrow night. It is a great episode though, which is why i specifically asked the trader for it. 'Oh Suzi' great song and funny during the Stevie Nicks interview, they have her name on screen as 'Stevie Nix'. 😂

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

The rage playlist doesn't seem to be working (happens at the start of every year!) all I get is [an error occurred while processing this directive] because it doesn't understand 2017 dates.

Do we have the broadcast times of each of these episodes?

Thanks!

Got it now - in Nathan's other post

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

Rage looks like it will be great tonight - an amazing start to the January season.

Glad they are showing 2 'lost' shows. This will be one of the very rare times in its history that everyone are seeing shows we know nothing about - as if we are watching it for the first time just like back when they originally aired. The unknown is usually more exciting than the known after all....

Glad Rage are making a good effort this year and look forward to seeing how the rest of January pans out - a good start so far!

Yes. I've thought maybe I should stop reading Jason's blurbs of what appears on each episode so that it's a surprise when I watch it... as often after looking at those lists I think the episode is going to be a bit 'meh'. But usually it turns out better than that.

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

One lost episode would be fantastic but two in one night is incredible! Like Jason said it bodes well for there being more "lost" episodes in the ABC archives!

Tonight looks awesome. Would have been good though to see some Flashez clips or something 70's. I must nag Rage about playing some next year.

"Stevie Nix"

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

I've had the national top 10 from the 1980 episode for ages. I think they played it on The Factory for some reason

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

Yeah, particularly in today's world that they would ban that word. There are far more unacceptable words that should be banned or bleeped out that's for sure.

Hi JASE, how right you are. In late 1987 (or early '88), The Factory were playing a couple of Countdown Top 10's. This was my first exposure of Countdown in the golden era (didn't start watching until August '86). The Judi Tzuke clip and song always stuck in my head from that day onwards. I remember they also played a Top 10 from around April 1981. I remember 'Morning Train', 'Antmusic', 'In The Air Tonight', 'History Never Repeats' snippets during the Top 10. I remember playing these Top 10's all the time thinking I wish they would play Countdown repeats and five years later it happened.

Hadn't heard the Air Supply cover of The Power Of Love. Great cover and video.

The 1983 episode was quite sobering. George Michael, Men At Work (Greg Ham), Shirley Strachan,Christie Amphlett,Joe Cocker,Prince,David Bowie and Michael Jackson all featuring

Yes, as I was watching I was thinking so many of the artists shown were now dead.

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

That's why I do not do that part of my annual summer Countdown drinking game any more as this year the show is covered by my private 30 year rule, where it is sadly now 'reasonable to expect' that a whole lot of the artists have now left us.

Most of the rest of the Countdown Drinking game still stand though and had to partake when a clip of the ABC'S favorite 80's a group (The Reels) made their appearance last night, if Nick Cave shows up this year the beverage has changed to non alcoholic as one year a live concert of his left me incapable of pretty much anything for the rest of the night sadly.

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

Lene Lovich with Maria was absolutely OUTSTANDING and her hosting technique was nothing short of sheer GENIUS and BRILLIANCE!

What a complete pleasure it must have been to have Lene Lovich at the ABC studios for Countdown, what a remarkable talent. And the intro from George Michael was sublime, I ADORED this episodes!

And the James Freud hosted episode from 1981 was SUBLIME!!!!!! Sooooo many Countdown performances in the one episode and beautiful ordered and shows the perfect era of Countdowns from 1981/1982 era and how brilliantly they flowed. The Ward 13 performance was just WONDERFUL, and great song See Venice and Die is, what a fantastic chorus !!!! James Freud was just magical as was Automatic Crazy, Juice Newton and that gorgeous actor.

Then there is the Jimmy & The Boys performance of Get Off My Cloud from the other 1981 Countdown episode, i have been waiting to see that performance and it did not disappoint, sheer excellence and HOT!!!!!!!!!

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

I loved Lene hosting as well - her outfit was SO 1983. Also loved the video for "It's You Only You", she looked great in that one!

For those that are interested, The Sunnyboys - Alone With You live performance is the 2nd version. On at least 5 occasions there were bands that came back on and did a second performance of their song, presumably if Molly thought the song should have done better and wanted to give it another boost.

The first version, which was in a darker setting with Jeremy Oxley having longer hair, was aired on the Sept 20 and Oct 18 episodes. This second version with with the coloured scaffolding also appears on the Wonder Years DVD

Does anyone know if the Roxy Music 'Jealous Guy' performance shown on the 5th April 1981 episode was actually a Countdown performance, or was it aired from another program?

I was wondering that myself. I dont know the answer, but I reckon it didn't have that Countdown Clip look about it.

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

Why of course Jealous Guy was filmed at the ABC Countdown studios. Roxy performed Same Old Scene on the first Countdown of 1981 in the studio with a live audience whilst they were here in OZ touring and Bryan Ferry did a Humdrum interview with Moly. Exact same set as Same Old Scene with the blinds but Jealous Guy was filmed on the same set on Countdown but without a studio audience

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

THE FIRST COUNTDOWN FOR THE YEAR 1981 OFF TO A FLYING START WITH ROXY MUSIC THE FIRST
INTERNATIONAL GUESTS. ALSO FEATURES AN INTERVIEW MOLLY RECORDED IN BRUSSELLS WITH BRIAN JOHNSON AND ANGUS YOUNG FROM AC/DC.
LOCAL ARTISTS:
FLOWERS 'WALLS'
AIR SUPPLY 'EVERY WOMAN IN THE WORLD'
SLIM DUSTY 'DUNCAN'
THE SWINGERS 'COUNTING THE BEAT'
OVERSEAS ARTISTS:
AC/DC 'HELLS BELLS','ROCK & ROLL AIN'T NOISE POLLUTION'
ROXY MUSIC 'SAME OLD SCENE' .... rage played this episode in around 2004

Countdown pre recorded the 2nd number being Jealous Guy and didn't show it till later on which you saw the other night on the April episode.

Countdown did the same with A-ha in 1985 when A-ha performed Take On me and Train Of Thought with a studio audience but then pre recorded Hunting High And Low without a studio audience but in the Countdown studio.

Countdown were very clever like that, they would have extra performances to show later on to spread the performances by international artists put.

The very interesting studio performance was with Duran Duran's 'My Own Way'. The performance actually does not appear on the Duran Duran hosted episode with Molly from 1982, it only appeared on the Countdown request show, rage have played this performance and it has the request name on the bottom of the screen. It actually does not appear on any FULL proper Countdown episode which was odd seeing Duran Duran were huge. It is in none of the 1982 Archives unless it is a case of a missing episode like the Lene Lovich 1983 and the James Freud 1981.

Re: rage goes retro * 5 Countdown Episodes! * Full info below * Saturday 7th January, 2017

You're onto it!
(though how come AC/DC are listed as overseas artists?)

Thanks. That explains why it seemed different to the other 'live' performances that episode.

That would make me wrong, then.
