Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

ohnoitisnathan
There's no Monday night ABC program this week

I guess they need to have a short break at some point

With Retro starting on Saturday, I need a short respite to clean up my hard disk, a bit of a backlog to process before it all starts again

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Michael
Why don't they put Monday night playlists up on the website? I know they post on facebook, but if they put all the other nights playlists up on the website, why not Monday's?

I get the impression rage have been on 'skeletal staff' since around the time the election was announced, and still appear to be. They never comment on Facebook posts anymore, for example.

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Guru Bob
Are they replacing this segment with women's soccer repeats now or am I reading the TV guide wrong?

I really hope not.

Who wants to watch (women's or men's) soccer at that hour?

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Looking at next weeks' programming they are only showing the women's soccer on the Tues/Wed night - which is a repeat of their regular Sunday afternoon program.

It looks like they will only replay the Saturday afternoon soccer on the Mon/Tues night and next week there is no game broadcast in that slot so it should be back to normal vault segment.

Checking the soccer broadcast fixture it appears that the Saturday game shown last week was a one off to launch the season (although it was actually round 2 apparently). The W League season runs for 14 weeks plus 3 weeks of finals but in round 10 (Jan 1&2) there will be no broadcast game.

So it looks like we will be back to normal after tonight.

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

The version of Life On Mars played during December 5 hasn't been played before until now

I started reading the playlist from the bottom up when I first saw it, and wasn't too thrilled, but yes there is some rare stuff shown earlier on.

I wish they'd shown 'Left of Center' instead of 'Luka', though, as I don't have a watermark-free digital copy of that.

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Super Fly Guy would have been great instead of Theme From S Express, but anyhow...

Would have loved rage to dig out Rookies Revenge from Lou which was a PWL production from 1988. rage used to play it lots in 1988, I wonder if they still have it.

Most of the clips were selections that are played many a times though Bomb The Bass with Beat Dis isn't one that is aired much, it was aired heaps in 1988 but glad they still have the video. Don't Make Me Wait is my favourite Bomb The Bass track though...

Coldcut & Yazz with Doctorin' The House would have been good for this special and the original 1988 video for Coldcut and Lisa Stansfield with People Hold On which is not on Lisa's official DVD....

Yeah, 'Superfly Guy' would have been better, and yes, many of these videos are regularly/semi-regularly seen on rage anyway.

I have a copy of the Lisa Stansfield DVD but have never watched it properly, as I hate that the videos are cropped (they actually cut some of the top and bottom off the picture) to appear widescreen.

'People Hold On' appears on this European various artists DVD, which I have - https://www.discogs.com/Various-Party/release/2896238 . And it was actually released in 1989.

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

The electronic TV guide says that this week's Tuesday morning rage episode is a George Michael tribute, so it is presumably a repeat of the tribute that aired last year.

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

*yawn*

So instead of rectifying their mistake by playing the wrongly advertised episodes of Countdown or Rock Arena, they just go with the same boring old Triple J fodder they always play. I am grateful for a great retro month this year, but there is absolutely no reason why they couldn't give us one hour every week.

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Brad
there is absolutely no reason why they couldn't give us one hour every week.

Too much work for them to do, probably. They're presumably public servants, so they don't get a bonus for doing the job well.

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Yep, instead of rectifying the wrong Countdown episode played, rage play the same old Alternative videos.

Though again, my call to rage this afternoon didn't surprise me, they had no idea it was the wrong episode played. And I had to tell them to re label the Duran Duran episode as 17/04/1982.

They basically told me they can't change much programming in the next few months but funny how on a Monday night when no one barely watches, those morons on the rage Facebook page I mean .... rage can pull out the same old Nine Inch Nails, New Order etc they have played mannnny a times.

I too am very grateful to rage for playing Countdown every January and this January was rather incredible for Countdown. I am not expecting one Countdown a week as that won't happen, as much as I'd love it to. But, the advertised episode that wasn't played should be played in the next 2 months, at least. But it doesn't seem likely to happen and will probably be ignored next January as well ...

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

I noticed earlier that rage have responded to a couple of comments on the facebook page about tonight's Vault episode, like someone asking who was in the group photo of Big Day Out artist they posted (really). That has to be the first comments I've seen from rage on there in months, probably because they like the artists being played.

Maybe you should have said there's a rare video in the Jo Kennedy-hosted episode that Nick Cave appears in when you spoke to them They'd probably go out of their way to make room for it then.

Also of interest - the rage website was updated today with this weekend's coming guest programmer blurb (an Australian rock band I'd never heard of, who are going to play mostly 'alternative'/rock acts by the looks of it). Yet they only put one (inaccurate and not detailed) blurb up for the whole of retro month.

Some of the songs this weekend's guest programmers are playing:

The Living End - Prisoner Of Society
Grinspoon - Just Ace
Cypress Hill - Rock Superstar
Gooch Palms - Don't Look Me Up
DZ Deathrays - The Mess Up
Dandy Warhols - Smoke It
Cosmic Psychos - ****wit City

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Yes, I did notice that rage responded to those who were asking about the Alternative Vault Special.

Seems they have the time to respond now that January is over and won't answer about the wrong Countdown episode, typical...

I commented under their replies to the people asking whether any of the clips tonight will be live ones with my question about the Countdown 1982 stuff up, seeing I saw rage commenting. No reply, of course!

There were no rage goes retro details on Saturday's in January on rage's Facebook page. No mention of Countdown's at all except the morning episode I requested and it was a fuss made about Elton John by rage. Otherwise I had to post the archival details under other posts so anyone who was interested could see them.

At least these days rage do have the occasional brilliant music video selection on some Monday nights and the proper VAULT specials once or twice a year. It took the death of Michael Shrimpton for rage to play Countdown outside of January. So Countdown will not appear till next January, wrong 1982 episode played or not!

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Jason 'The Moderator"

Do rage really think retro month viewers get excited over Elton John? I guess they do, since they had that Elton John-themed episode during January a few years back. Personally, I don't like his music much at all, unless it is sung by other singers (e.g. Kate Bush).

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

I thought it was interesting that rage thought Countdown and retro month viewers would get excited about Elton John.

I didn't request that episode for Elton John, I requested it for Jo Kennedy's performance and for the general feel of the show with all the special guests.

Most people who look forward to January are Countdown collectors and look forward to Countdown studio performances, HUMDRUM and those into some rare clips from Rock Arena.

Interesting rage are suddenly answering viewers questions for today's Alternative and Triple J theme and they arrived just once on Saturday morning 2 weeks ago to Facebook to talk about the 1982 episode for Elton John?

Wouldn't they have made an appearance when they played the 'THE THE' Rock Arena episode on weekend 2 this year and the Countdown's with Elen Folly e.t.c... To stay so called 'cred' ...

May I add, annoying that rage played the Elton John MELDRUM TAPES yet they have ignored the Bananarama request I have made for how mannnny years. Obviously Elton John has more cred than Bananarama, in their eyes ....

Basically, all I care about is January, 2018. 11 long months but hopefully it goes fast, I just want another 17 or so unrepeated Countdown's. This is why I hope rage stays on air ...

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Thank You Nathan for uploading the rage Playlist every Monday night. I have left Facebook as I loathe Social media and don't plan to return till November when I submit Countdown requests.

Would appreciate it if you continue pasting the Playlists for Monday nights

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Sure, I plan to continue.

Next week's Tuesday morning episode is only about an hour long. No doubt they'll pick a really good theme, then

It's starting later than normal because of that W league (whatever that is) that has been airing normally on Wednesday mornings. Typical Australia - sport trumps everything else

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Interesting, only 1 hour long. Perfect to play the Countdown episode from 11/04/1982 in that hour. But according to them, they don't have time in their upcoming programming. Fools

I have all the Meldrum Tapes on DVD that i recorded when they were shown on VH1 about 10 years ago. They have the original interviews, but for some reason when the some of videos were played they were post '86 videos. Jason, i assume you would already have these?

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Michael, I did record some of The Meldrum Tapes from VH! when they were played on Foxtel in 2007/2008.

I remember Bananarama/Pseudo Echo was advertised but when i went to record it, I don'
t think it got played.

Do you have the Bananarama and Pseudo Echo Meldrum Tapes from VH1?

If you do have the Bananarama Meldrum Tapes in particular, I would DIE for a copy!!!!!!!! Please???

VH1 butchered the meldrum tapes

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

That's okay Michael,

I didn't think VH1 played THE MELDRUM TAPES on Bananarama and Pseudo Echo as they were the ones I wanted most.

A guy contacted me from reading my post here on my Forum about the Bananarama 'Meldrum Tapes' and has put an original VHS copy onto DVD for me!

YAAAAAY!

It's hard to discern much of a theme there, but as it's all eighties there's a lot I like there, including some rareties. It's a bit of a bland playlist if watched all at once, but there are some great elements, such as T'Pau, the Pointer Sisters, Nona Hendryx, and what surely must be rare videos by Nu Shooz, Jill Jones and Regina Belle. I would say it's a smooth soul/r&b playlist, but then what the hell are UB40, Style Council or T'Pau doing there?

The Nu Shooz video for If I Say yes is RARE and Nona Hendryx with Why SHould i Cry * WOW * A FAV!

I would go with what your TV guide says over what rage post. Last week the show started earlier than the time rage states on the facebook post. It had the correct earlier time on the electronic TV guide from memory.

yourtv.com.au have rage airing from 1:31am to 3:30am.

edit - they have since corrected the time on the facebook post:

from 1:31 am on ABC TV. Playlist below.

*Edit: This post originally listed 3:19 am as the starting time*

Okay, as I checked my IQ guide and my DVD Recorder guide and they say 1:30 am.

rage can't even get times right, what are they doing ...

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

I always miss the good specials. Oh well, at least the gems they dragged out of the vault will now at least get another play sometime soon. Wish they played this sort of stuff Saturday mornings in January.

Long time reader - first time posting. I'm keen to contribute to all things Countdown, Rage, 80s, 70s and classic. Is it me, or has the Vault Monday night specials been a bit hopeless lately? 90s doesn't fall into the 'vault' section, for me.

I think this morning's episode happened because there were some people asking on the facebook page last week where the B*Witched/East 17/Atomic Kitten etc. special was, as they recently toured here on a joint tour.

Even though it's 17+ years ago, late 90s/early 00s doesn't seem very 'retro' to me either... but I guess it is now.

I don't think the current rage programmers know much about 90s dance music though, as the 90s dance playlists they had last year were predominantly late 90s stuff, which isn't as good as early and mid 90s dance was, to me.

I thought last week's Vault episode though was the best one in a while. This year though, generally, they haven't been that good though so far.

Re: Every Monday night (Tuesday morning) on ABC1 now a Vault special

Last weeks VAULT special with the 80s Soul/Funk material from Nu Shooz, The System, Pointer Sisters, Nona Hendryx e.t.c... has been the best thing since 'Retro Month' in January finished.

Hi Nathan, sorry about the late reply. I did see your message in my inbox also. I would very much like the playlist from 13 Feb, but mainly the rare vids - ie Regina Belle, Nu Shooz, The one or two from the Pointer Sisters, the rare Robert Palmer one, rare Sade one, Celebrate The World. If it is easier to do, just burn the whole lot. Also did you record the one on Tuesday? I'm a tragic for late 90's/early 2000's pop. Mainly because this was when I started watching Top Of The Pops on UKTV on Foxtel. Got to discover all the UK hits before they became hits here and then started buying all those 'Now That's What I Call Music...' double CD's. Those were the days!

I now back up my discs as individual video files on external hard drives, so can make a disc with only the clips you want just as easily as copying a whole disc. I kept a few things from last week. Probably best I email you a list.

Waiting for rage to post tonight's Vault playlist....

rage hasn't played Lonesome Day for 15 years, so that's something.

They also played the ultra-rare clip for "The Rising" just before The Wrestler, and this wasn't listed in the playlist. There are some people who reckon Bruce never made an official clip for The Rising and hence the provenance of this clip is unknown.

The one and only previous airing of this clip was on rage on 20 Dec 2003, some 18 months after the song was released, which adds to the mystery. The doubters argue that if it was an official clip, why was it not released with the song, or very soon after?

The clip looks official - it's certainly professionally made - but who made it and whether it is officially sanctioned is a bit of a mystery.
