Re: This week in 1986...

Apologies for repeat posting, but I assume some people might look at 1986 and not 1983.

Anyway...

I could've used the break between chart flashbacks to have a break from blogging. Instead, I've compiled a list of all the number 2 hits on the Australian chart from the 80s.

Here's part 1, covering 1980-1984:

Re: This week in 1986...

Thanks Gavin! Don't know where you find the time to do this, but really appreciate it. Is your info from the Kent report? So used to thinking some of these No.2's were actually No.1's as seen on Countdown, like 'Brass In Pocket' and ''Babooshka' to name a couple from 1980.

Always felt sorry for Colleen stalling at No.2 for 5 weeks, kept off the No.1 spot by Queen...and there's Belinda Carlisle - a No.2 with 'Our Lips Are Sealed' and a solo No.2 with 'Heaven Is A Place On Earth'.

Countdown used their own chart (based on what, I don't know) pre mid 1983; hence 'Babooshka' and 'Xanadu' were #1 on Countdown, and Toni Basil's 'Mickey' was a tied #1 with something else on the episode that she performed it on the show.

Yes, all based on Kent/Australian Music Report for this post. For the second half I'll follow the ARIA printouts (and so switch to the in-house ARIA calculations from mid-88).

Thanks for reading!
